Talking Some Advanced tactics to help you win. - 07-17-2008

Well, Ive played the Advance wars series from the first game and i have a couple stratgies that i find almost always help me win online/or offline with friends.

1. Mass rockets.(if there are no planes)

doesnt matter how many tanks or crap they have a wall of 10-15 rockets will stop them allowing you to mass war tanks or other strong units.

2. Never attack

when online ALWAYS play on the defensive unless your sure you can wipe them out in a few turns.

3.surround all squares around your indirect attack units.

you should do this anyways but make sure none of your indirect units are exposed to direct attack.

4. cruisers and battleships

Your cruisers can make a block infront of your battleships and your safe from subs and air allowing for your bships to attack.

5.infantry spam!!

when you have a good sized army just send out infantry for fun.

6. Tricking your opponent

This one is fun but only works in fog of war.

make a second army about the size 5-10 strong units.
send them in on the top or bottom (the opposite side of where your main force is)
and rush the enemy base.

If your enemy falls into this ( most of the time they do )
They will think your attacking from there but now you move your main force in and you should meet about 30-40% less resistance.

I have more but i think i want it kept to myself lol.

Never did know about the rockets. It usually takes to much time and money to buy that many though :[. Your opponent will eventually build up an air force to attack your rockets depending if there are air ports on the map. The 2 army thing in fog of war is clever ^.^.

What I do is position submarines infront of my battleships and cruisers behind them, so when I get attacked by enemy subs they are stopped and get owned next turn by cruisers. Here are my tips:

If you find an enemy sub and can't destroy it, surround it with flying units and it can't move.

Always attack first, the person to attack first always has the advantage and will do more damage, if you are attacked first you have less forces to counter attack - making it less effective.

Use bait, send in infantry to the fog of war, and have rockets behind them. A lot of infantry will often attract some good targets for a veteran rocket crew.

Don't try and take it all at once, move your entire army at one time, stragglers get killed, and a small army get's demolished. The tactic of the Creeping Barrage (Perfected by the CANADIANS I might add!) is effective in this game.

EDIT: Rather then splitting your army in two, make a reconisance crew or a distraction team. Never split your army 50/50. If that happens the opposing army of 100% has a huge advantage.

20/10/70 is your best bet. 20% to distract, 10% to defend, 70% to attack with. Make sure the 10% are well fortified.

mass rockets is not good- i got tips from a really good player named GipFace and this is what he said:
1. Build from all bases each day on a land based map (stick with all infantry and tanks and artillery,- only make rockets if you just need to support your artillery)
2. Only make anti-air units if there is an air threat- and if you have an airport make b-copters

there was more but thats about it for basic unit building
