People lose weight from playing the wii
Before the wii was released nobody honestly thought the wii would be much of a work out. I mean your just waving your arms around like a lunatic right? WRONG! Amazingly the Nintendo wii is actually making people lose weight! Who knows maybe it’s simply from sitting in front of the TV for 5 days straight with twilight princess? or maybe the wii is actually the cure to Obesity.
It started with DDR back a couple years ago. People would dance on that little mat for hours on end and some were reported to have lost weight. In January 2006 more than 750 schools in the US actually used DDR into their health and physical education curricula. My school actually had a DDR competition not long ago but I’m really bad at it and didn’t sign up. Anyways, studies say that playing activity based video games like dance dance revolution or the wii allow players to lose 6 times more calories then normal video games like the ones on other consoles like the XBOX 360.
A man in Philadelphia named Mickey DeLorenzo said that he actually lost 9 pounds by simply playing wii sports every morning for half an hour since December, and had no other changes in his daily routine. He even showed before and after pictures of himself on his blog.
"I moved my feet, I used full body motion, and I swung my arms to mimic the real thing. If you just stand there and make small moves or sit on the couch and play, I don't think you'll [get] much if any results regarding exercise."
-Mickey DeLorenzo
Even personal trainers are starting to recommend and use the Nintendo wii. Zander Urquhart, a trainer from Scotland said that doing exercises are much easier if you see a little caricatures of yourself doing them on your television. He thinks putting the wii in gyms isn’t such a bad idea and even if the wii isn’t helping people much with physical education he says at least lots of video game geeks will come streaming into the gym and possibly start using other equipment.
So is it true? Is the Nintendo wii really helping people lose weight? Or is it just a coincidence that all these people are losing weight? I guess we’ll never really know. But there’s a rumor floating around that Nintendo is working on a diet game for the wii. But not much info has been released yet.
