Super Mario Bros. (My Second Review)
Published by: Nintendo
Genre: Action Series
Number of Players: 2 Alternating
Release Date: 1985
Introduction: You take role of Mario, or in the case of a second player, Mario's brother Luigi. The object of the game is to race through the Mushroom Kingdom, destroy Bowser's forces, and save Princess Toadstool (Peach).
You travel around the world, passing valleys, underground tunnels, through oceans, and sometimes across giant bridges where flying fish attack you!!

Controls: The controls for this game could not be any easier. This game is all timing, running and jumping at the right time. I give the controls a
10/10
Up: Enter pipes
Down: Duck, Enter pipes
Left: Move you character left
Right: Move you character right
A: Jump
B: Hold to run faster/ Shoot fireballs
Start: Pause the game
Select: Choose from a 1-2 player game at the title screen
Gameplay: Mario attacks by jumping on top of his enemies, which kill the mushroom traitors, Goombas, and send the turtle soldiers called Koopa Troopas into their shells. Mario can then kick the shells which kill most enemies like other koopas or goombas but sometimes the shell can ricochet of a wall or pipe and hit him. Jumping on enough enemies in a row, or kicking a shell into enough enemies in succession, double points earned with each enemy killed, eventually earning Mario a 1-up, an extra life and another chance to pass the level.
Mario's other method of attack would be Fireballs. There are three forms of Mario: Mario, (The tiny one) Super Mario, and Fire Mario. To get these power-ups you have to find a mushroom by ramming your head into a floating block (Weird isn't it) to find it. Once you touch the mushroom, you double in size and can take one hit from an enemy. If this happens you will shrink, returning to your small version of Mario. If you keep hitting blocks while you are Super Mario, you may find a flower. Touch it and you can now throw fireballs by pressing B. I give the gameplay a
9/10
Sound: I love the music in this game (and who doesnt). The first level, most people can remember that music. It has appeared on numerous other Mario games and is pretty much Mario's trademark music. I also love the underground level music. There is quite a variety of music in this game, from the ocean music to Bowser's castle music and they are all really well done. For sound effects, like Mario's jumping, it may tend to get on some people's nerves but not mine. I give the sound a
9/10 Replay Value:
There are a ton of secrets in this game: From warp pipess, to invisible blocks, to the infamous "Minus World" there possibly is a secret in every level. This gives the game a high replay value because you may find something new every time you play. Also. once you beat the game, You can go on a second quest, it is basically the same levels but there are harder enemies, like Spinys in place of Koopas. I give the replay value a
9.5/10
Pros:
+ 8 massive worlds to explore
+ Simple controls
+ Fun Boss Battles
+ There is multi-player (Alternating)
+ There are a TON of secrets to find
Cons
- The multi-player aspect is alternating between turns, not playing simultaneously
Overall the game gets a
9.5/10 If you haven't played this game, you can not call yourself a Nintendo fan or even a gamer. You
MUST play this game. If you can't find a re-make of this game: snes, (Super mario all-stars) the
GBA version, then you must get this on the virtual console if you are planning on getting a
Wii.
