There was alot of controversy over this game because fans of the side-scrolling Super Mario Bros were quite disappointed in Super Mario Bros 2. The fans demanded action and good old fashioned goomba and koopa stompin', and Super Mario Bros 3 doesn't disappoint. Super Mario Bros 3 is the best selling game of all time!
Introduction: Bowser has stolen the princess again and Mario has to go rescue her. Bowser casts a spell on the seven kings and Mario has to restore them to normal by retrieving the magic wand that is given to Bowser's underlings. The game play physics for Super Mario Bros 2 were scraped and Mario goes back to his roots.
Controls: The controls for this game could not be any easier. This game is all timing, running and jumping at the right time. I give the controls a 5/5
Up: Enter pipes
Down: Duck, Enter pipes
Left: Move you character left
Right: Move you character right
A: Jump
B: Hold to run faster/ Shoot fireballs/ Attack with tail
Start: Pause the game
Select: Choose from a 1-2 player game at the title screen
Gameplay: You control Mario and run across the level while avoiding koopas, goombas, and bottomless pits. A new world map is introduced, as well as new power-ups and items you can use before you enter a level. Mario attacks by jumping on top of his enemies, which kill the mushroom traitors, Goombas, and send the turtle soldiers called Koopa Troopas into their shells. Mario can then pick up and kick the shells which kill most enemies like other koopas or goombas but sometimes the shell can ricochet of a wall or pipe and hit him. Mario's other methods of attack include Fireballs, throwing hammers, and attacking enemies with his tail when he grabs a leaf or dons a Tanooki suit. There are many forms of Mario: Mario, to find these power-ups you have to find a mushroom by ramming your head into a floating block (Weird isn't it) to find it. Once you touch the mushroom, you double in size and can take one hit from an enemy. If this happens you will shrink, returning to your small version of Mario. If you keep hitting blocks while you are Super Mario, you may find a flower, or a leaf. Touch it and you can now throw fireballs by pressing B or you can have the ability to fly by running for a while and then taking off. I give the game play a 5/5
There are also some fun mini-games that the game will offer you.
Sound: I love the music in this game. The first world, most people can remember some of that music. I also love the underground level music. There is quite a variety of music in this game, from the ocean music to Bowser's castle music and they are all really well done. For sound effects, like Mario's jumping, it may tend to get on some people's nerves but not mine. I give the sound a 5/5.
Some sampled music from the game: World Map Music Overworld Music Hammer Bros Battle Replay Value: There are a ton of secrets in this game: From warp pipes, to invisible blocks, to the magic whistles, there possibly is a secret in every level. This gives the game a high replay value because you may find something new every time you play. Also. once you beat the game, You can play the game again, but you are offered a load of items that give you the ability to fly forever until the end of a level or until you get hit. This will help you find some of the secrets that are way up in the sky. I give the replay value a 4/5.
Spoiler Alert!
"The secret to receiving one of the magic whistles"
(Hold down + B on this white block till you fall through it. then run to the end of the level withought touching any enemies.)

Pros:
+ A very fun frog suit is available to use
+ A very fun hammer bro outfit that protects against fireballs and you can also throw hammers.
+ Simple controls
+ Fun Boss Battles
+ There is multi-player (Alternating)
+ There are a TON of secrets to find
+ 8 massive worlds to explore
Cons:
- The multi-player aspect is alternating between turns, not playing simultaneously
Overall the game gets a 4.8/5. You MUST play this game. If you can't find a re-make of this game: snes, (Super mario all-stars) the
GBA version, then you must get this on the virtual console if you are planning on getting a
Wii.
