100-Year-Old Enjoys Gaming

Video games are mostly produced for and aimed at young audiences, but Kathleen ‘Kit’ Connell from the UK is enjoying her DS into her triple digits at the age of 100. Kit says that she plays video games on her DS console for 2 hours every day in order to keep her mind active, which she also says is the key to a good, long life. Kit first picked up a video game at 96 and has been regularly playing since.

Her collection of games consists of My Word Coach, Left Brain Right Brain 2, Easy Piano and Brain Training in which her brain age is 64. So 36 years younger than her actual age, which is pretty remarkable.

She also makes sure to take breaks, just like any other gamer should for their health. “I’ll play it in the evening, then I’ll have a break and a cup of tea, then I’ll go back to playing my Nintendo,” Kit says. What a cool old lady.

That's actually pretty heart warming. The fact that someone her age would consider such a thing, and promote it in such a positive manner is even more surprising, and for her age, She said she doesn't feel a day over 80, and I would agree. She looks like shes in great health, and this is clearly working for her.

This has just made my day, nearly every time you see non-gamers playing video games it's somewhat negative, either saying there detrimental or too violent. Glad to see that the medium has moved from the sterotyped 'spotty nerd with glasses, on his own with a controller', to basically just everyone. Good to see.

Lol, now if only I could get my Grandmother to play games. She's learning to work a laptop, so their is hope!
