Looks like
Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance's lower-than-expected sales put the company down a bit, as Kingdom Hearts creator Tetsuya Nomura has explicitly stated that he would like to gear
Kingdom Hearts back towards its original roots in the console platforms. Tetsuya also has some thoughts on possibly bringing back the older games into HD versions, and is 'currently researching' the possibility of doing such things with the older games.

Sounds like a new, highly developed game might be in the works for one of our current platforms, or maybe a new, 4G platform? Unfortunately, it remains to be seen.

If it is possible, I would like to do something about the series being spread over so many different consoles, too. I am thinking a lot about the future.”
