You may know of Jerry Lambert, better known as Kevin Butler, or you may have just seen him in one of his more than 30 Sony commercials. He acted a role as Sony’s vice president, until just the end of the last year. Well now Sony’s suing their face actor for his quick appearance in Bridgestone Tire’s new commercial.
Bridgestone had Jerry Lambert play Mario Kart for the Wii on screen as part of their “GameOn” promotion which allows customers to pick either a $70 American Express Gift Card or a Nintendo Wii console.
Sony is rather taken aback by this, and has filed a lawsuit saying ‘'use of the Kevin Butler character to sell products other than those from PlayStation misappropriates Sony's intellectual property, creates confusion in the market and causes damage to Sony.’ Well, it was just one commercial and it’s not like everyone’s a Bridgestone Tire’s customer, but I see why Sony isn't happy about it.
