Earthbound FanFic: SoulBound

Writer's thoughts
This is my first ever FanFiction, I thought I should make one for Earthbound since it has potential. I'm sorry if the characters may look different, but this takes place a few years after the events of Earthbound.


The Prologue

Entry one

The sky was dotted by seagulls in a portrait of abstract pinks and violets that seemed to go on forever, the moon was visible and bright. Fishermen basked in the river motionless until they got a catch. People walked happily about, greeting each other and most of which were going home to their families. Little boys where in their tree house, plotting their next theft on the robbery for cinnamon rolls, while the girls played with their dolls in the park. Onett had never seemed so happy in all it's years of being a town.

Ness sat on a cliff watching the sun go down again, he did everyday. "To think this could have all been destroyed..."

He could see his house from here, the sun gleamed perfectly on it. Then he remembered that the landlord had threatened to tear down the house if they did not move into town, but Ness's dad had allways worked something out. There where too many memories in that house, he started to remember when his family first got their dog King and when he got his first +A in school and his mom put it on the fridge. Then he could start to remember, that fateful day when that meteorite fell from the sky... He remembered it was getting late, and started to walk south.

Most families where already asleep, he could hear a few children praying before they went to bed. He entered the Baker's shop to get some flowers, the baker also grew a garden in the back of his shop, and sold flowers to Ness regularly.

"Tis' Ness! Moi favoritea boy, what are you doing arounda' so late?!"

"Came to get some last minute flowers from your garden, what do you have to chose Francis?"

"Ah, so you come' to get de flowers for your ladya' friend, huh? Well my boy, I have somea beautiful Begonias here for you."

Francis showed him the flowers, they were as beautiful as he described. "How did you grow those here?"

"I'ma a baker, but dis' does not'a mean I cana' be a superb gardener!"

Francis was full of surprises, Ness looked at his wallet "How much are they?"

"No, no my boy, you cana' have dem' fora' free, after all you are a good friend." Francis put the flowers in a Bouquet.

"Thanks Francis, you the best." He grabed the bouquet and left the bakery and headed south to the path.

The night was quiet, he could hear crickets all over the palace singing their song in harmony. Ness passed the arrow mouse family's house and was on his way to Twoson, when suddenly he could hear crying. He felt a breeze coming to his right and started to walk toward the crying source. He crept behind a tree to see what was happening, two grown men were surrounding a little girl who seemed lost.

"Do you think she will make us a good buck when we put her for ransom?"
"You dimwit, shes a little girl and her family will pay anything for her"
"Mommy! Help me!" cried the child.
"Your mommy can't help you now..."
Ness was outraged and walked toward the men. "Stop this, or else you'll get hurt"
"Wooah, it's a little shrimp telling us what to do? We'll show you not to interfere with our plans!"
The men pulled out metal rod and started to slowly walk toward Ness. "You're going to be hurt bady boy!"
"Oh really? You fatties?" Ness taunted them.
The smaller one snorted. "Did you hear that? He called us fat!!!!"
"KILL HIM!" Both men where rushing toward Ness.
Ness grinned."TELEPORT!"
He disappeared, both men stopped and where dumbfounded. The smaller one took a step back. "What...happened???"
"WHERE DID HE GO?!" They felt something, and quickly turned back. "Oh...no..."
"PK FREEZE!"

Both men fell to the grown frozen solid under a a thick layer of ice. Ness walked toward them "Maybe I shouldn't have done that..."
"Thank you Ness"
Ness turned, to see the familiar face, it was Paula's little sister . "Are you OK Macy?"
"Yes, I was playing with my dollies when these two scary people came" She started to sob.
"Well coincidence I was going to to your house, lets take you home with your family"
"Big sister Paula said you were a very nice person, now I know it's true"
Ness tickled her, and he walked her to the Polestar preschool.

He knocked on the door, he could hear Paula's dad making phone calls to customers, he started a high school not too long ago and was looking for students and teachers.
"Coming!"
He instantly knew it was Paula's mother, because of the sound of her voice which was recognizable by anyone who lived around her. "Oh Macy! I was so worried! I thought something terrible happened to you!"
"I'm OK mommy, Ness saved me from the scary people."
"Thank you Ness, I could not live without my sweet little girl" She kissed Macy on the cheek and Macy ran off to the living room.
"Paula is upstairs if you want to see her"
"Thanks Mrs. Jones"

Paula's dad gave Ness a wave, he was far too busy to chat. Ness made his way upstairs to Paul's bedroom door and knocked.
"Who is it?"
"Your favorite guy in a baseball cap!"
She giggled "Come in"

She was looking out at the stars on her window, she ran and hugged Ness. "I thought you wouldn't come"
Ness looked at her. "I wouldn't miss watching this with you, it only happens every 1000 years."

He handed her the flowers "Look what I got for you"
"Oh Ness they're beautiful!" she walked back and put them in a vase.

They sat on the window "These stars remind me when we were kids, not a worry in our minds. I can't seem to forget the adventures we had together with our friends."

Ness turned "I can't either, I remember when I first met you, I took down that blue cult to save you."

Paula looked down "I was so navie, well we all were!" she chuckled then became quiet.

"There it is!" Ness looked at the night sky, it was the millennial comet that only came every 1,000 years. He looked at her "Make a wish."

Paula closed her eyes "Already did"

Ness held her hand "So, what was your wish?"

Paula smiled "It's a secret silly!"

Ness got close to her and kissed her "I know my wish"

The Prologue

Entry two

Just on the edge of the river he could hear the shouting and chatting of people, they had all gathered at the square to watch the comet pass. Lanterns where being released into the sky and painted the night a luminous golden color.

"Beautiful night isn't it? I've never seen both towns so happy"
Paula stared at the lanterns floating into the sky. "This might have not even been here...without us"
Ness comforted her. "Your faith was the reason why we're all alive and well"

Ness suddenly felt something horrible and quickly turned to the sky, nothing. Something was wrong, but he did not know what it was. As he went to check outside, he heard a horrible noise pierce his ears, it was the comet. He and Paula both ran to the window again to see, the comet's presence was creating a rip in the sky or atleast that's how it looked like. On the edge of his eye, he saw the people running away into their homes screaming. The rip was getting bigger and and the noise got louder.

"What's happening!?" Paula's mother and father bust through the door and saw the rip.
Ness turned to them. "I'm not sure what it is, but it's getting bigger."

The rip continued to grow until the noise stopped, then a huge blinding explosion blasted through the windows, breaking them. Ness jumped and pushed the family out the the explosion radius.

"Get down!" he screamed, then he crouched on the floor waiting for the explosion to subside. After a few seconds the roar stopped and they got up.
"Is everyone OK?"
"We're alright"

Ness looked over the window again, besides the windows shattering, he could not see any damage done to anything. People where starting to peek out of their homes, but they stayed inside, terrified. Paula's dad sat on the bed and took a deep breath "I think we have had enough for one night; Ness, you may sleep on the couch if you'd like to stay here."

He accepted the offer and went downstairs and layed on the couch looking at the ceiling. "Why did that happen?" he thought to himself, he closed his eyes and fell to sleep.

Ness opened his eyes, to the noise of a crunching sound. It had only been a few hours since he fell asleep, he continued to listen to the sound that was seemed to be moving.
"Is anyone there?" The noise got closer to the house and then stopped.
"It was probably nothing..." He turned around to sleep when in he felt like someone was watching him, then at that moment he could see to his horror a dark figure at the doorway to the backyard, it was humanoid.

The figure started to make strange quiet robotic noises and was walking torward Ness.
"What are you?!" he yelled. The figure jumped on Ness and started to strangle him, it had no eyes only a lense that glowed a deep red, Ness grabed his baseball bad and thrusted it at the figure. It fell to the ground squirming and making more robotic noises until it it stopped moving.

"What's wrong!?" Mr.Jones ran down stairs and turned on the lights on.
Ness looked at the thing that attacked him and was shocked. "A...starman...!" he thought to himself., the starman layed there motionless.
"Whats wrong daddy?" Macy had followed her father, she never did like to sleep.
"Get back sweetheart. Ness, what is this?"
Ness turned to him. "An alien..."

The Prologue

Entry three

Mr.Jones flinched "An Alien...? WHAT DO YOU MEAN!"

Mrs.Jones came downstairs in a hurry to take Macy back to her bedroom "Come on Macy, let's tuck you back in." Paula ran downstairs "Whats wrong...."She paused and took a step back.
"How is that here?!"
Mr.Jones looked over "You know about this too!?"
"We need to take care of this thing before Macy sees it or else..."
Paula looked at the window that showed the midnight blue river "Let's throw it in the river"

Ness and Mr.Jones exchanged looks and put the body in a bag "Alright let's go out front" The two left the house, while Paula followed. The night was still very quiet, not even a cricket could be heard singing. The river ahead was glistened by the shine of the full moon and you could see an occasional swan pass through the light.

After a walk through the woods they arrived at the river, Onett was barely visible in this light but the moon's shine made Ness's house visible. "As soon as we do this, let's forget about it."
They nodded and threw the bag into the river, they watched it go down the river until it was out of sight. Paula looked down "How did that get here?"
Ness walked over to try to comfort her "I think that comet had to do with this...I think I should go home now to figure out what happened."

Mr.Jones and Paula nodded "Alright, good night"
Ness walked up to Paula and she gave him a hug "Good night." Then Ness started to walk home.

After a few minutes he arrived at Onett, most of the lights in the buildings were turned off. Ness continued to walk up to his house, but something felt strange it felt like the eerie feeling like someone was watching him as he walked. He walked faster, the feeling got stronger, he started to jog, the feeling got even stronger, now he was sprinting until he got to his front door.

Ness looked around "That was...creepy" He went to turn the knob, then a violent red flash burst in front of him. He winced and he could not make out what it was with the blinding light, then a fog started to form around him. The fog slowly cleared until he saw a shape, "YOU!" Ness looked, it was another starman but it felt a lot stronger than the last.

"YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD FOIL MASTER GIYGAS'S PLANS, I"LL SHOW YOU PAIN BEYOND YOUR COMPREHENSION!" Ness backed up, there was no where to go, everything was fog that made it impossible to see anything, he backed up more. "SILLY EARTH SCUM, YOUR POWERS ARE NOTHING TO MINE, I WILL DESTROY THIS MISERABLE PLANET MYSELF IN MASTER GIYGAS'S HONOR!" the starman charged, Ness backed up and fell from a cliff, breaking his neck. Before he sliped away he heard the words of the starman, "MASTER GIYGAS IS NOT DEAD, HE WILL DESTROY EVERYTHING!" then everything went blank.

BEEEEEEEEPP....BEEEEEP.........BEEEEP.....BEEP, Ness leaped out of his bed. "What, where?!" He was in his room, he looked around and turned of the alarm. "So that part was a dream, I guess I was really tired...but still, that was beyond normal."

"Ness! Breakfast is ready!"

Ness ran downstairs to the kitchen and was greeted by his mother "So how was yesterday with Paula?" His mother had made pancakes and Ness jumped to the table.
"You wouldn't believe it."
Ness's mother looked surprised "Oh well, eat your pancakes."
Ness grabed his cell phone and turned on command call. "Call Jeff"

The Prologue

Entry four

Ness put his phone on the counter, on speaker. It always took a few minutes for the signal to get to Winters, it didn't have much service. "I guess I'll just wait until it gets to him"

The door opened, it was Tracy. Ness's mother winced "Tracy, you're all muddy..." She stopped washing the dishes and cleaned Tracy's face from the mud.

"Ugh...stop mommy..that hurts!" She stomped the ground "Ow..." Tracy looked over to Ness and smiled "Ness and Paula sitting in a tree!"

Ness spit out milk "Hey!" The phone crackled "Hello?"

Ness looked over "Is that you Jeff?" The weak signal made it harder to hear.

"Of course it's me! What is it you want? I'm working on a new project with my father. The snow around here is starting to melt a little."

"Did you see what happened yesterday? When the millennial comet was passing."

"I don't live in your region, but our sensors indicated a large amount of radiation in your area of the time of the comet's passing. What happened?"

Ness looked outside "I can't explain it...but there was a tear in the sky..."

"A dimensional tear? I'll go investigate, I'll be there in a bit." The phone made a thud noise as if the phone was dropped, Ness heard Dr.Andounts talking "Help me move this giant hot tub son!"

Ness laughed to himself "Some project they have there." He hung up and put down the phone. Tracy opened the door "Come in King!"

King ran inside and jumped on Ness, licking him on the face. Ness was trying to wipe himself from the slobber "Alright boy, I missed you too!" King finally got off and started running around, Ness's mother screamed. "King! Let's give you a shower! You left mud footprints all over the place!" King whined and walked to the bathroom.

Tracy laughed "Bad King! Bad!" Ness's mother took Tracy by the hand, you are taking a shower as well!" Tracy struggled "Aww... come on mommy!" They left to the bathroom.

Ness got dressed and got ready to go out. "I wonder if everyone is alright..." He walked out the door, slamming it shut as he left. The sun was up and shining intensely, Ness started sweating. "It's hot today."

He made his way to main street and caught the sight of the pier, which was full of merchants and people. "The pier looks beautiful today...let's see what I can find." he started walking on the path to the pier.

After a dodging many merchants selling items at ridiculous prices, he finally got to the pier gate. "Pheww...didn't thin I would make it..." The pier was full of life, a shop in every inch of it, people sat down in cafes to spread gossip and news about the world.

"Milk for sale! Goat milk for sale!" Foreign shop keepers ran around promoting their goods to the passing pedestrians.

"key chains! Get your key chains!"

"Insurance! Come tu' geta' some' Insurance!"

He continued to walk, amazed by the activity of the market, people from all over the world must have come here. He noticed someone familiar on the dock he went over to see who it was.

"Hello?!"

The Prologue

Entry Five

The familiar person stood up and smiled "Hey Ness"

Ness grined "Poo? (Yes, his name is Poo, deal with it) What are you doing here?!" They both bowed.

"I was traveling all over the world to get to know the culture of many continents and learn from them, my father was traveling with me and he decided he wanted to trade with the hundreds of merchants that show up here every month."

Ness looked suprised "You really are living a pretty exciting life, aren't you?"

Poo laughed "You can do many things when you are the son of an emperor of a large country!"

They both laughed and started to walk through the Bazaar. "So, Ness how has your life been since we last saw each other? You and Paula get together? I always knew you two had something for each other."

Ness smiled "Yeah. And what about you? You have hundreds of girls back in Dalaam who are at your feet."

Poo looked at the sky "Well, I haven't found a girl I like yet."

There was a sudden breeze, it was getting stronger and stronger. They both looked up, covering their eyes from the dust; a figure could be seen in the sky getting closer to their location.

Poo frowned "What is that?"

The figure began to make itself clearer, Ness waved "It's Jeff! Hey Jeff! Over here!"

The pod surprisingly barely made any noise, it slowly descended to the ground and landed. After a few moments the door on the side opened. "Hello gentlemen" Jeff walked out of the pod. "The Sky runner's upgrades run smoothly."

Poo walked over "Jeff, it's been awhile." He bowed.

Jeff fixed his glasses "Poo, I haven't seen you in years. What brings you here? I came here to help Ness with something."

Poo leaned on a pole "Well my father stopped his ship to trade with the merchants here. We were traveling all over the world to learn about their cultures."

"Well would you like to come with us Poo? We're going to Paula's house."

He hesitated at first, but he agreed "My father is too busy with business that we probably won't notice anyway."

Jeff looked at his pod "Let's take the Sky runner." They all got in and the engine started, then in a few seconds they were out of sight.


Fifth entry, it's pretty short but I will make one more Prologue entry then this story will start to get exciting.

The Prologue

Entry Six

Ness looked out the window a few seagulls passed the sun. Poo stretched out and yawned. "So what have you two been up to since we last saw each other?"

Jeff turned his eyes to him. "I recently got an award from our government for my work on Winter'd wildlife protection..." Poo stood up "Boring! Any fighting go on?!"

Ness laughed at Jeff and looked to Poo. "Well..." Poo interrupted "Let's talk about girls. I see Jeff is still forever alone." He snickered.

Jeff frowned and fixed his glassed on his face. "I have no time for a relationship. I am far to occupied with my duties and work."

Poo laid back on the seat and smiled. "Or you just can't get a girl." He started laughing hysterically.

Jeff tensed up and stood up. "Listen here Poo Poo, shut up or else...!" He grabbed a pole off the edge of his seat.

Poo jumped out and put his hand on his sword's handle. "Or else what? Nerd boy?!"

Ness got up. "STOP FIGHTING!" They all paused and sat back down. Poo looked down. "I don't have a girlfriend yet either..."

Jeff surprised looked at Poo. "But all those girls back in Dalaam...they were crawling at your feet."

Poo put his sword back in it's sash. "I still haven't found a girl I would like to spend my life with..."

Jeff and Ness looked at Poo. "You'll find someone..." A sudden bump was felt, as if something hit the Sky runner.

Jeff went to the control panel. "Something hit us! I'm going to go faster on this thing, hang on!" They waited until the pounding stoped, Jeff activated a screen. "Oh no..."

Ness stood up and walked over. "Whats wrong?"

Jeff turned around. "It's Paula's house, it's on fire...!"

Entry Seven

Ness pounded the board. "What do you mean!?" He ran to the window to see.

Jeff started to land the ship and quickly ran to the control deck. "We need to put it out, no one has come out. Get ready for landing."

Ness poked Poo to get his attention. "Listen, you know what we have to do right?"

Poo's eyes began to glow, he smiled. "I certainly do." Ness grinned, "You do that while I go inside to get everyone."

Jeff looked up and fixed his glasses. "Landing now, opening the doors! Bring everyone in here!"

Ness and Poo leaped out of the Sky Runner, soon they were running toward the blaze. Poo jumped to the entrance to the house. "PK Freeze!" Poo gave Ness and thumbs up, "I'll keep doing this to keep the house from falling apart so you can save everyone!"

Ness gave a thumbs up and ran inside the house. The house was unrecognizable, flames engulfed the whole house. Ness coughed "HEY!!!" no answer. He passed the kitchen and looked around, it seemed like someone had been looking for something.

Ness ran upstairs and checked the rooms, a flame busted out of the wall and made Ness fall. "Crap...Look at this burn..." He got up and searched the bathrooms hoping for signs of life. "PAULA!!! ANYONE HERE!!!" Still he heard no answer, he noticed that Paula's slippers were scattered in front of the basement door, he ran down and attacked the door "COME ON!!" After a few tries the door fell and Ness ran downstairs..

"PAULA!!!" He desperately looked around. "Ness! We're here!"

Ness sprinted over to the family which were huddled together under a blanket. Mr. Jones got up from his family "Ness, thank god. I couldn't open the door..." Ness crouched in front of Paula. "You alright?"

Tears began to drop from her eyes, she embraced him. "You're all burnt up...be careful..." Ness noticed that she was terrified, something else was bothering her. Paula suddenly screamed. "NESS!!!!"

Ness turned around, a metal pole slammed him on the head. Ness started to bleed, he looked up and to his horror...."Another one!" He jumped up and grabbed a bat. The starman was large, at least 8 feet tall. Ness and the starman began to circle each other, Ness was bleeding badly. "I'm going to end this madness right now..." The starman's visor began to glow and it got ready to attack, it didn't speak like the rest as it was completely silent.

"So where did you come from?! Are you mad I killed your master?!" Ness attacked, their two weapons met. "You junk heap! I KNOW YOU DID THIS!" He jumped and attacked again, their weapons met again, they stayed like that and they started to push on each other. "I'll make sure you pay for this!" The starman's visor glowed red and suddenly overpowered Ness. Ness fell to the ground surprised. The starman slowly made it's way toward Ness, Ness couldn't use PSI because the air fume were suffocating. Ness frantically tried to get up, he just couldn't. Paula ran to Ness "No!!!" The starman pushed her away to the wall and was right infront of Ness, Ness layed there waiting for what would be next...

The Starman grabbed Ness by the neck and began to choke him, Ness didn't have the energy to fight back. His eyes turned to Paula who was in tears, Ness began to shed a tear as well.

Ness started to remember their past adventures when they were kids, his lungs demanded more air but he couldn't. The starman grasped Ness's neck tighter, his vision began to blur and everything looked like a blur itself. He continued to hear the crying "No..." Something awoke inside him, an awesome power energized his body. Ness reached to the starman's arms, he began to pry himself from it's grip. The starman's visor started flashing different colors, Ness knew what to do. "IM NOT GOING TO LET YOU TERRORIZE US ANY LONGER!" Ness began to glow, the starman stared at him. "Goodbye..." Ness created a psychic sheild to protect Paula and her parents. Ness looked to the robot. "Get ready you piece of junk!" The starman's visor began to glow red again and started to run toward Ness. Ness took a deep breath "Boom..."

The whole house fell apart in one giant explosion, Jeff and Poo run to the burning rubble. "NESS!!!!!!"
