Hello Friendcodians! Starting now we're opening a channel that will consist of videos and info about our beloved website, and best of all, it will be contributed by the members themselves!

How this will work:

Members that feel they can offer something for the channel, be it videos for the an Nintendo series, Playthroughs, informational videos about the forums, or something family friendly that helps represent our lovely site, will be more than welcome to contact the staff involved with monitoring the content the channel will have. - Vlogs = Vlogs are also acceptable in getting to know fellow members of the site, you're welcome to contribute these as long as it doesn't contain material that may be hurtful to other members or is offensive. Remember these videos maybe off site but it still pertains to FC if it is posted on this channel, all content will be monitored.

There will be a new Mario & Sonic games for the Wii U in time for the 2014 winter Olympic games. It will feature returning events as well as new events. The game will make use of the unique features of the Wii U GamePad controller.
Sonic Lost Worlds is another Sonic title from Sega that will be exclusively for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Finally, there will be more Sega games available on the Virtual Console in the future.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons will be discounted at $4.99 until June 20th after its release on May 30th (they will both retail for $5.99 normally).

Upcoming titles for the Wii U and 3DS include Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (May 24th), Animal Crossing: New Leaf (June 9th), Game & Wario (June 23rd), Resident Evil: Revelations HD (May 21st), The Wonderful 101 (September 15th), andPikmin 3 (August 4th).

New Super Luigi U will be available on June 20th as downloadable content for $19.99. It will also be available August 25th as a packaged product for $29.99.

Nintendo is teaming up with Best Buy to allow people to try out unreleased games at various locations. More information will be available in the future.

This upcoming E3 is where we'll hear about a good number of previously unseen games like the next Smash Bros. and 3D Mario that will likely determine the Wii U's long term success. The longer it takes for the ball to get rolling, the tougher it will be to convince consumers and publishers alike that this system is not to be forgotten.


The main issue with the Wii U, I feel, is its branding and marketing. In terms of whether it's meant for casuals or the core crowd it's really neither here nor there. Fans of Nintendo games will probably get one anyway and those who own an Xbox or PS3 certainly aren't coming to the Wii U for its 'unprecedented third party support'. Once the games start rolling out it's still going to be a problem selling this to the crowd Nintendo managed to draw in with the Wii unless they come up with a game that really explains the product like Wii Sports did while being understandable at a glance. It's inherently a tougher sell because playing with the Wii U Gamepad isn't as 'natural' as using the Wii Remote, so a game that uses all those Wii Remotes people have stuffed away after the fad died down could be the solution to revitalizing their interest. They've already got the controllers needed to play it like they expect it to play, after all.

Right now I feel the same way about the Wii U as I did about the 3DS at launch. It doesn't have enough games to make the purchase worthwhile and I'm not really feeling the whole touch screen controller thing. Like it did with the 3DS, Nintendo's got to sell me on the value of the Gamepad. They managed to do it with 3D and Super Mario 3D Land, so I'm hopeful!

Once The Wind Waker HD, Wonderful 101 and some other games come out I'll probably be ready to pick one up, but only because I mainly want to play Nintendo's new games. If we disregard those, the way it's going now there won't be much left to buy the system for. Seeing as multiplatform titles are already skipping Wii U even though it's just as capable a system, I'm afraid to think of the situation we'll be in next year or the year after, once the next-gen consoles have established themselves and development has started prioritizing those. I don't know Nintendo's track record on securing third party exclusives or ports, but they may to have to consider doing this otherwise it's just going to be another GameCube/Nintendo box.
One positive for publishers out of the drought that Wii U owners face is that the attachment rate for the console must be relatively high compared to Wii; the people who own one now are hungry for new content. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate's recent success is likely partially related to this, I imagine.

The way the Wii U is performing could also be reflective of the market for home consoles at the moment, but purely from a value standpoint I also think the PS4 is the more interesting system right now. Of course, much is still unknown about it but it's doing things I want my console to do: good online infrastructure (account system!), impressive visuals, a controller design I can get behind, third party support as well as being a place for indie games. Aside from that, all I will ever need to play is probably going to be included in the system so no need to buy an external hard drive to make up for lackluster internal storage space. Although this last point remains to be proven, I would be surprised if Sony pulls a 180 and decides to sell proprietary (external) drives or something, because that worked out so well for the Vita.

If there's one thing the past has taught us it's that you can never count Nintendo out.
