Yeah this may be alittle late but I wanted to say something. Where do I begin?

So Nintendo is making a sequel to Super Mario Galaxy, A successful 3D platformer. This is something I haven't seen Nintendo do since the NES age. I was shocked when they shown a trailer of it.

But my honest opinion is....Why are they making a sequel to a Mario Platformer, Especially in this Day and age?

It just feels alittle out of place. Think about it; Lets list the Mario platformers that came out for each nintendo console. And one more thing: The side-scroller mario games will be Categorized as The 2D Genre and Starting with Super Mario 64 as The 3D Genre

The NES had 4 Mario platformers, One being a rip-off of Doki Doki Panic and One being The real mario 2 but was called the lost levels in America so lets just say 3.

The Gameboy, Im not sure how many but We all know their obviously 2D Genre games.

The Super Nintendo had 2 Mario Games with one being a collection of the past Mario games.

The Nintendo 64 Had 1 Mario Game. Super Mario 64 which was considered a break through back then. Awesome Game BTW :wink:

The Nintendo Gamecube had 1 Mario game. Super Mario Sunshine. An interesting game that offered some new ideas. I liked it a lot but not as much as 64.

The Nintendo DS had 2 mario games but one of them was a remake of the Nintendo 64 version. The other being New Super Mario Bros.

So as you can see, sequels to 2D Genre games are common. Although there has only been one 3D Genre game per console.

So Now we move on to the Wii. The Wii now has a 3D Genre Game, Super Mario Galaxy, And a 2D Genre game coming out called New Super Mario Bros. Wii which is a sequel to the one for the DS But on a different console. But now Super Mario Galaxy is getting a sequel. Super Mario Galaxy 2.

So not only is Super Mario Galaxy going to be the first 3D genre game to have a sequel but New Super Mario Bros. Wii is going to be the first sequel of a 2D Genre game on a different console.

I personally believe that Nintendo is getting lazy. Super Mario Galaxy was a great game. It didn't need a sequel but it's either soooooo many people wanted it or Nintendo just wants to make more money. It's going to take a Great idea to continue the story, if it is, and make this game worth it. I "might" get it but I'm not too anxious for it. Wow, This thread got way out of hand so I think I'm gonna end it here.

So that's my rant and I want to know one thing. What do you think? Why do you think they're making a sequel? Are you excited for it? Do you think it's a dumb move or a smart one?

The year was 20XX. The Gameboy Advance was selling for 79 USD. I bought it. The GBA SP's price was reduced to 79.99 the week after.

The year was 2008. I bought the iPod Nano. The new skinnier Nano came out within the month of my purchase.

I have this recurring fear. New things. Is it too late to get the Wii? Or should I invest in the next big thing, in 201X?
