1. A 'Vlog' is a 'Video Blog', a blog in video form, hence the replacement of 'B' for 'V'.
2. Hosting videos on the site would be trivial as it means giving a lot of people access to certain parts of the site. It's much easier to embed videos, and also it doesn't lay stress on the sites bandwidth.
