Reference Drawing?

I'll use references from time to time. These days I try to stick to drawing my own characters so I don't really need as many references. It's good practice though and it can help you get the hang of body proportions, how wrinkles in clothing work, etc... It's a good start.

I agree with Papersak, it's good and bad for the most part.

I believe it's good to try to copy another person's picture by hand from time to time, it helps you learn proportions and poses better. (but that depends if the artist you're copying did it right themselves) But the bad side is that it doesn't help you're creativity...If you're copying someone else's design it will sometimes back fire and hinder you're own style of drawing.


As for me I wouldn't say I'm great at it. Like a Bowser picture I posted on DA, I missed some details on Bowser that made him awesome, lol.

It's so much easier for me to be original because you can make the character as simple or crazy as you see fit...Beautiful thing really. xD

Yea but my problem is I fail at trying to draw things just from my head. Sometimes I can get a decent looking krystal head or a lucario. :P
And I just search google images until i find one i like lol.
But what i try when i reference draw is each one has a different pose so i can get better. Most drawings i do the characters are looking right or straight. I can't draw left facing things for some reason. xD

I plan on making a manga at on point so I have to be creative, lol.
