Simple question.
If you are a long distance runner, than you can run farther than the average person without losing breath or without getting tired. Yet, most long-distance runners (keep in mind, I did say "most) are not the fastest. This is called muscle and cardiovascular endurance.
If you are a short distance runner, than you have quite the amount of speed, and are faster than the average person. Yet, most short-distance runners tend to tire out when it comes to long distance (i.e. 400m run).
You can't train to become either one, it's chosen genetically over a ratio of muscle compositions in your body, mostly in your legs.
Personally, I am a long-distance runner, being able to practically whistle the mile at 4:53. And 400m at 2:21. And, although I'm not the fastest of the group, I do have speed.
