    Lightbulb MIlitary Recruitment In Schools

Should the military be banned from visiting schools to promote the armed forces and recruit new soldiers?

Schools are supposed to be a safe place to grow and learn. School is the place that is supposed to help mold us into what we are to become. Should the military be allowed to recruit people to risk their lives when in reality their lives haven't even started yet?

    What are your thoughts?

I don't think there is anything wrong with it, as long as the recruiters are just handing out flyers, and giving basic information.

Its not like they can just swoop them up, and shove them into a battlefield.

If they are under 18, they can't even enlist into the military without their parents signing paperwork giving their consent. I know, because I was only 17 when I joined (graduated at that age).

The US is made up of a volunteer military, and that is a lot less strict than other countries out there. There are many places, such as Singapore, and Israel, where you have to serve in the military (usually for 2 years) if you are a citizen.

So, anyone who joins chooses to join. There are much worse places people could end up than on a post on a military base.

There's nothing wrong with it, because they aren't forcing anyone into it. They're just giving out information.

Nothing wrong at all. Schools are a place to learn, not allowing military recruiters to come to schools would be counterproductive to that end.

But you don't even get the chance not to listen.
And put thoughts into the students.
I'm not saying joining the military is wrong, but yeah.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems you are accusing the military of coercing students into joining. That would be wrong, but when ever someone is selling anything they make it as convincing as possible.

    I'm not.
But the schools i used to go they wouldn't even tell you they were visiting until they were there.
They should at least give them the choice to listen or not if there interesting. -.-

There is a certain logic to your view of making it optional, only students interested would go. On the other hand, some people might not know that they would like it. I think things like this should be mandatory, since some students don't take advantage of all opportunities to look into something new.

The military is an amazing employer, why shouldn't they be able to tell people about it?

There seems to be this general notion that anyone that joins the military is going to be in danger. There's only a few hazardous trades, out of many many possible jobs in the military. The fact is you get payed well, won't be put in danger if you don't want to be, and it's truly an amazing beneficial experience.

HOWEVER, I agree that they shouldn't be forced into listening to recruiters. I'm not American so we never had anything like that here, but if classes are forced to go into an auditorium and listen to the recruiters it's not fair to anyone that doesn't want to be there
