Why people critcize games, and why they are wrong, wrong, wrong

People always say video games have too much violent content in them. I have to persuade my mommy and daddy to buy me a t rated game, even though I'm 13, makes me look like an idiot in gamestop or wherever.

"Video games have shooting and blood and voilence in them. Is that what we want our kids to see?" A lot of caring parents say. Yeah well, In school you read the play Romeo and Juliet, which isn't just a love stroy, as most people blindly assume, it also contains murder, suicide, and enough cursing to make a combat vet blush.

Nobody compains about that, true?

Now, sometimes things go too far. For instance, the Manhunt games deserve to be shamed upon *COUGH* manhunt 2 *COUGH*. They contain senseless and brutal violence with no point (Except to decapitate, choke, or saw the intestines out of people).

What I'm saaying is either:

1. If you want to stop kids from being exposed to this stuff, you have to remove all traces of it

or

2. Don't blame video games for violence. look at other alternaitives. TV? Books? Plays?

well, in the play version they don't but I also saw a 1970's reincarnation and they did. Moive was rated "PG". Of course, back then things weren't as strict as now.

I am proving a point though.

Movies include cussing and whatnot in order to attempt to appeal to a larger audience. Rather than have just the original representation, they spiced it up. However, I coulda sworn the 1968 version stayed exactly loyal to the script, except maybe taking out that musician trio scene.

Video games are the most popular form of media amongst teenagers, and that's why they receive such a harsh treatment.

However, as of late, the government is more worried about rap music than video games.

You just have uptight parents, that's not a bad thing. Just show you're truly mature for your age, and you'll be fine. That's how I got to where I am, but not acting my age, but acting older.

My, my, my those are the things you call stereotypes. Really annoying, right?
Well, the ESRB and the other rating boards worlwide have the labor of informing all parents of what kind of content can you find in certain media in this case videogames. Since the message goes to concerned parents it is natural that people began thinking videogames were a waste of time they were violent etc.

now to be honest, games like GTA really are not suitable towards kids. if i had an 11 year old son, i wouldnt want him to be able to go down to his local gamestop and pick it up. sure, the ESRB makes things sound bad, but as a parent, i want to know exactly what is going on in a game.
