If your really serious about drawing though you should get some good HB pencils in a kit it will let you do all sorts of shades. A blending stick can do wonders to shading and shadows as well.

Yeah, if you're really into drawing the HB sets are great. We use them in my Visual Arts class, and I love 'em. ;D
As for the options up there, I chose the Wooden #2 pencils. They're better for shading.
