Snakepit's Holiday Game Guide (2008) -
12-12-08
Ho Ho Ho! So, Christmas is coming up and you don't know what you would like Santa to get you. Well, here's a few suggestions that might help you out!
Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3 exclusive)
This game's been out for a while now, but if you don't have it yet, you really are missing out. If you've played any other games in the Metal Gear universe, then you should be itching to find out what happens next. The gameplay is is just about as solid as snake (pun intended) and it contains one of the best story-lines in gaming history. Couple that with a very well put together multiplayer mode, and you'll definitely be getting more than your money's worth.
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune (PS3 Exclusive)
Another game that has been out for a long time, but you should be ashamed of yourself if you haven't tried it yet. You play as Nathan Drake, as treasure hunter searching for the lost treasure of el Dorado. He finds clues from family heirlooms from his ancestor, legendary explorer Sir Francis Drake. You must shoot, climb, drive, and solve your way through this action packed adventure title. With some of the best lighting and water effects ever seen in a game, and a Uncharted 2 recently announced, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is definitely a game worth getting.
Call of Duty: World at War

Based on the Call of Duty 4 engine, Treyarch's COD:WAW takes us back to World War 2, but this time, over to the Pacific. You'll battle the Japanese one Island at a time as Marine Private Miller, then take the fight to the Eastern Front as Red Army Private Dimitri Petrenko. With excellent voice acting including Kiefer Sutherland (From tv's "24") and Gary Oldman. (The Dark Knight) As if that weren't enough, the game builds on Call of Duty 4's brilliant multiplayer mode, meaning that you'll have a hard time putting it down. This game is well worth it. In fact, I would pay that much for the Nazi Zombies bonus mode alone.
I might add more games later.
These, below, are all games I don't actually own, so I haven't taken the time to write anything about them! But I've heard nothing but good things, so they're worth checking out as well.
Fallout 3
Resistance 2
Halo 3
Rock Band 2
LittleBigPlanet

Crap. Before, the PS3 was to me a Blu=Ray player that would be nice to have. Now, I need it. I need a PS3 and I need a Xbox 360. I don't think that I can go on much longer with my meager collection of outdated games on my Wii. I just can't do it.
EDIT: Nice list, needless to say. Too bad that your list has only good things for consoles that are out of my reach.

Great guide SnakePit, all the games that you "heard" about, are good. I don't really like Halo 3 though, but that's my preference. I have a question regarding Metal Gear Solid though...
Do you have to play the previous versions to understand the game's storyline and get the full value out of the game?
Thanks in advance,
AJ.

Yes, otherwise there's really so much going on that you won't know what's happening half the time. You can just play it and kind of put the pieces together on their own, or at least just read the wikipedia articles from each game before, but I can't promise that'l be enough,

MGS4 was the first Metal Gear Game I've played, I didn't understand anything, but some parts I did.
MGS4 was such a good game, even if you didn't understand it, there was something really special about it, it's just the relationship with you and the other characters are so great, it's impossible to not like it!
MGS4 is a definite win.

If you play through it again you'll understand more and more each time. Definitely play some of the other ones though. That would be cool if they released them on the Playstation Store.
