I lower my graphics settings to get a higher frame rate, as does almost every other PC gamer. Good graphics are only distracting. On COD4, for example, there's a developer console command to turn off all the dirt etc. on the roads and buildings, so everything looks smoother and the game runs faster.

When playing a PC game if your not the person with the best frame rate and least lag your going to get owned hard, it doesn't apply to consoles, you can have stunning visuals and 60fps and still play just fine...

If graphics and power of a system aren't relevant how come they come up in every debate or choice about which system to buy? No offense, but saying that they aren't relevant is just wrong.

The Wii has plenty of good games if you can sift through the shovelware that some companies have been putting out to make a quick buck. No More Heroes, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, de Blob, Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3, and Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon, among many others, are all worth a try. There are also some non-exclusives with motion control that can be fun as well.

You shouldn't have to "sift" through to find good games. They should be apparent when you buy a console. If you don't know if the games on a console are what you want, then you my friend bought the wrong console. The Wii has great games, but the ratio of good:crap is horrible (Maybe like 1:25), that's my problem with the Wii

Tiers exist in Super Smash Bros. Brawl if you strip away items and other parts of the game (such as certain stages). Those things are fun though, and many people may prefer to play with them. I personally do. Tiers are somewhat subjective and not completely definite, but they give a general idea of the strengths of certain characters when you play under conditions when there are no items and a limited number of stages to choose from.

Otherwise they don't mean anything at all. If you play with items, a good Ganondorf may get a clock, slow down the other person and then proceed to stomp him into oblivion. A good falco, fox or mario may be able to reflect an item at the right moment using the reflector or cape respectively. Items and conditions on certain stages act as an equalizer which, in my opinion, makes the game more fun.

Tiers exist in other fighting games too. They also exist in racing games and numerous other multiplayer games. Some characters are simply better than others in most multiplayer games. Whether you agree on a specific tier list or not is one thing, but I think everybody can agree that in most games, some characters are superior to others.

No, you don't need to actually do anything. You're playing a game, and you should be having fun. If you enjoy a challenge, then playing hard mode is fine. Playing on harder modes doesn't automatically make you anything except for good at certain games.

Again, this hardcore vs. casual thing is stupid. If you only play games that you personally consider "hardcore" or that others only do, you're missing out on lots of fun games.

No-one plays games for the reason of being "hardcore" mate. People play games more then the average person. That's what makes them hardcore.

They aren't relevant to whether or not the Wii is current gen, and that's all I was saying. The Wii would be a current gen console whether it had worse graphics than the NES or whether it had better graphics than the PS3. Graphics and power aside, Wii is current gen and from the same gen as Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 either way. I am not arguing that the Wii is better than the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. I merely was contesting a few nonsense points made by the person who posted this thread. As you said, graphics and power may very well be relevant to a discussion about which console is superior, but they are not relevant as to whether the Wii is current-gen. The Wii being current-gen is indisputable fact.

All consoles have bad games. PS2 had lots and lots of horrible games too. The Gamecube honestly probably had a better ratio of good to bad games than the Playstation 2, yet I'd still consider the Playstation 2 to be the better console. How many crappy games there are for a system shouldn't matter since the Wii also has plenty of great games, the likes of which have no equivalents on PC, Playstation 3 or Xbox 360. Nintendo cannot control companies like Ubisoft (who, by the way, at the same time also published No More Heroes, a fantastic game).

And no, the Nintendo Wii isn't equivalent to the Playstation 2. None of the current consoles this generation are.

In essence I agree. Thus by that logic, anybody can be hardcore playing on any gaming console and playing any games. However, the terms "hardcore" and "casual" have been misconstrued several times over by the original poster of this thread. That was my main point of my argument.

Me? I'm not really a hard core gamer you can say. I'm a hard core gamer with Gears of War 2 though xD. Wii games.... not really.
