Being a core gamer - 01-31-09

Hey, guys.

To all the hardcore wanna-bes out their... do you really conser yourself a hardcore gamer? If yes, then you should know that being a hardcore gamer is more then just being interested in Halo or any other game a core gamer would like.

Firstly, you should know that theirs more to a console then meets the eye (lol Transformers). You should appect the fact that the Wii isn't next gen. Accoreding to an article made not too long ago, The Wii doesn't have enough "RAM" to produce next gen games. A PS3's 700 RAM MR vs. the Wii's 200ish RAM MR. Something like that. I'm not saying the Wii is a bad system. I'm just saying your better off with a PS3 or Xbox 360.

Secondly, Tiers exist. You just need to face the fact that your favorite charater sucks. But don't be discourge. Who knows? You may win a tournament with that charater...

Thirdly, you need to be actually good. Learn some techniques if necessary. You can't just beat the game on easy mode your whole life. Try hard mode! Beat a boss at a low level! If at first you don't succeed, try try again. Win a tournament, do whatever it takes to win.

I know I miss a few statements so feel free to correct me.

Do I conser myself a core gamer? No. Nor am I casual. >_> Just call me a gamer. (:

Edit: I was a little off on my first statement. The Wii DOES have some value here and there. Such as most of the VC games and some of the Wii games Mario Kart Wii and before.

Re: Being a core gamer - 01-31-09

Nope im hardcore, just because your on a wii doesn't mean you aren't hardcore. I just got bored of halo. And how they stopped making mechassault. But im mostly on the computer now since the graphics are even better than the ps3 or xbox 360. :P gotta love your graphics card with hd. i was argeuing with someone that a computer can produce better graphics than the xbox 360. They were like omg hd cod5 looks so good on 360. im like omg my cod5 for computer in hd looks 10 times better. but besides that, to be a hardcore you just like games in general and you would buy a new computer just to play them >.> xD. Atleast thats what i think the definition is.

Re: Being a core gamer - 01-31-09

Ahum. Wii isn't next-gen because its graphics don't meet this generation's expectations? Don't make me laugh. An actual 'core' gamer wouldn't give care whether he played 8-bit or full HD. Most 'core' Halo fanboys probably wouldn't even get past world 1 in the original Super Mario.

/argument.

Oh, and Halo is overrated. =3

Yes, I like to play my games on easy sometimes. Does that make me less of a 'core' gamer? No. A 'core' gamer is someone who doesn't follow the usual commercial media gaming trends and does buy games such as, say Okami. A gamer that plays for the fun of it, maybe even competitively. If playing a game on its maximum difficulty is what it means to be a 'core' gamer, then it's overrated. A core gamer is nothing more than a fan.

Re: Being a core gamer - 01-31-09

I personally don't think being a hardcore relies as much on "skill" as much as it relies on "knowledge" of the industry. For example, I'm not THAT good at gaming (I'm pretty brutal in Space Invaders, though), but I know a TON of things about numerous game designers. I've subscribed to numerous podcasts on them (but I cut back on them to save time), and that's what makes me a hardcore gamer. I don't just play for fun; I play because I have a passion for the industry.

Re: Being a core gamer - 01-31-09

I don't see the Wii being a hardcore system for a few reasons: It's lack of half decent online games. You can be as intense as you want these days if you can't actually prove that without going to a local tournament it's scarcely true. I would so the "hardcore" Wii games consist of MK:Wii (Small Community) MoH (Even Smaller Community) and Brawl (Big Community). I consider the Wii's technology, philosophy and ideas next gen, but not the Wii itself. It just doesn't apply itself in a way that can make me say "Wow this really feels next gen" it's more like, "Wow I've traded mashing buttons for flailing arms".

I am a hardcore gamer, with most games, but not all. Single Player games I go nuts in, I have a perfectionist attitude with Single Player aspects of games, so I try and do everything, or close to it. With online my W/L ratio, Damage Given/Damage Taken & K/D spread is pretty much what I live by.
