Xbox 360 Help!!!

My console is currently having the "open tray" error. For those of you who don't know what that is, it is when the console refuses to recognize any discs and asks you to open tray and insert a disc. I have seen youtube videos of people pounding their systems until the disc reads (i have had no luck with that).

In stead of giving dang Bill Gates more money for selling me a faulty buggy system I'm trying to find a cheaper alternative. Instead of paying 100 dollars and then waiting over a month for my console to be fixed, im considering buying a broken system for parts. Does anyone know it it will work? Is this wise? Do I just buy it, uninstall the CD drives and put the good one in place of the defected one?

I'm taking that your warranty is up? If it is then it doesn't really matter if you void your warranty. But I think it would be easier to just send it in...... so much hassle in breaking your 360 open, and then taking out the CD drive. In the process of swapping them, you could damage the new CD drive, so in my opinion, just send it in ;)

My one year warranty has been up since before Christmas lol. I'm confident that I can the CD drives out with no problem. I am kinda short on money right now with my tux rental from prom so...I have maybe enough to get a broken system with a working drive on ebay. Sounds almost easy. lol

don't risk it, find a modder in the area who will probably take your console and open it up and fix it, if it needs new parts they may wait for free ones. if your console if fixable then a modder will do one for around 50$ maybe less. i know someone who buys people broken consoles for like 10$ and recycles them, adds their parts to toher broken amchines then he paints the body and sells it off. but unless you live in canada i don't think he'll fix it for you.

Thanks for all the advice and input, PS it wont do any good for me lmao, im in South Carolina...far way from Canada. I opened my console myself and broke the warranty (expired anyway). Now I'm going to fix the problem, thank you youtube. lol.

If it all works, then I have cheated Microsoft of cheating me even more money xD

Sorry here that Gamestop would take it. If it runs for 5 seconds they will take it.

Most likely here are the two issues

A.Your games a scratched
B.There is something in the reader.

If my friend knew you he can easily fix it.

Yeah it's at least you don't take care of your 360 and messed up the lenses for reading games,or you just have badly scratched games.

Actually my games are in perfect shape and my 360 is in a covered shelf by itself so it can't be either of these problems.

Update: My system is successfully disassembled, its pretty depressing lol. I have tried the solutions I've found on youtube but none are working yet. I'm going to keep trying but if all else fails...I'm going to save up for a new one and play my wii while I wait. It's gong ot suck because then I'm going to have to buy another live card...meh.

Fingers crossed that I won't have to spend 200 more dollars.
