No, you need to sync both controllers.
1) Open SD card door on Wii
2) Open Battery cover on Wii remote
3) Hold red ''sync'' button in the SD card door (don't hold for more than 10-15 seconds)
4) Press red ''sync'' button under batter cover
5) Let go of sync butons
6) Enjoy Multiplayer

what is the sd card door?
the first controller works the second one doesn't>_<
The SD card door is the door on the Wii itself near the disk slot, in between the reset and eject button. And this is just to sync the extra controller, if you follow everything I said then it should connect.
It syncs the controller to your Wii, so everytime you press a button trying to turn the Wii remote on when you're at a friends house it won't work. Also, a Wii remote can only be synced to one system at a time.
