    Mario Kart 7: Snaking Discussion

What are your opinions on snaking on Mario Kart 7?

If it has online like the last 2 Mario karts had, id be against it personally. In my opinion, snaking virtually ruined Mario Kart DS's online races in my opinion. The game becomes who can snake better rather than who can drive better. On top of this from what i've seen if you really want to have a chance of winning a race in snaking against another snaker, your only real choices were Yoshi and drybone's with their respective karts. Out of the Entire roster, you really have only two characters to choose from with their standard and primary karts in competitive racing, which is lame in my opinion. Again this just is my opinion, What's yours?

By snaking, do you mean drifting? Mario Kart Wouldn't be complete without being able to drift. Being able to maneuver through curvy courses is a part of what makes Mario Kart.

It's like that short boost after you drift back and forth. But in Mario Kart DS, a majority of players would constantly power boost throughout the whole race.

I like that boost! It helps, same way like items help. If you were to remove items, then it really wouldn't be Mario Kart. Are you going to remove snaking too just because it helps? That would take the fun out of it! Just saying... >x>

Just because you can button mash real well does not make you a great snaker. There is much more than getting off mini turbos as fast as you can. It requires the knowledge of knowing every inch of the track and the best snakers can do it on every track. Snaking was in Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash ,but nobody gave a damn until it went online in Mario Kart DS.

In my opinion, Snaking added depth and skill to the game, something Mario Kart Wii lacked. All it took in Mario Kart Wii was a bit of focus and defensive driving to win. Wheelies took no skill at all to perform and karts stood no chance against them ,but that may have been different had karts had the ability to snake.

Snaking is very likely to be in Mario Kart 7 since the Mario Kart Wii drifting mechanics have been done away with.

i agree MT3marshall i can use the Drift boost vary well but i only use it on turns you know the way it was meant to be used. i miss the good old days when mk was a fun pick up and play racing game. now due to snaking it has gotten way too competitive to the point were it stops being fun and becomes ether frustrating(for newer players) or boring(for more experienced players snakers and non-snakers alike). i hope nintendo dose something about snaking in mk7 if not then i think im done with the Series

Other than knowing the track I dont really see the skill in constanly spamming the mini boosts. Focus and Defensive driving however dose take skill as not only are you dodging
obstacles of the track but also attacks from 7 (11 in Wii) other racers, all while using various elements of the track to you advantage to win like shortcuts and boost panels, yet you say it like its nothing. Also I liked the boost system in Mario Kart Wii due to you having to actually time the mini boost to use to your advantage, rather than just instantly having a mini boost by flicking the controls as if you had the Gold Mushroom from Double Dash at all times.

As for adding depth I think snaking dose just the opposite. As stated earlier, your only really able to use 2 out of the 12 characters in the roster and their two defalt Karts in a competitive race. With snaking your only using the drift and boost stat of a Kart, making the other stats including the acutal speed of the kart completely usless. When using snaking you virtually throw out the fundametals of the game. As for single player it eliminates any challange that a Cpu could give you, making the the game boring and Easy. I tried snaking agaisnt a staff ghost I had trouble with before and beat by almost a whole lap. It just makes things way too easy.

And where exactly did you find out that they were getting rid of Mario Kart Wii's drift mechanic?

So when someone snakes, they no longer have to focus, drive defensively, dodge obstacles on the track, avoid attacks, or exploit shortcuts and boost panels? Quite the contrary; snaking makes all of this even more difficult than normal, thus greatly increasing the skill factor and depth of the game.

First of all, any character can be used because the character choice has virtually no effect whatsoever on gameplay.
Secondly, anyone who has actual "skill" in Mario Kart DS would realize the fallacy of using any other Karts besides Yoshi's or Dry Bones'. These are obviously the best Karts in the game, even for non-snakers.
And if snaking makes things so "easy," isn't someone an idiot for not doing it?

To be honest, the Egg1 and Dry Bomber are the Mach Bike and Flame Runner of Mario Kart DS. Every Mario Kart has two karts that tend to dominate the others so snaking isn't responsible for less depth, not to mention in Mario Kart DS there are other karts other than Egg1 and Dry Bomber to snake it. Snaking by its very nature accelerates the pace of the race and requires you to have faster reaction time, which is why I tend to dominate in non-snaking quite easily without any effort whatsoever. Snaking takes constant effort and focus. I agree defensive driving takes focus ,but apart from that snaking is far more competitive and intense. As for making the speed stat worthless, that is completely and utterly false. The Egg1 easily outspeeds the Dry Bomber in snaking since the base speed is still higher and Rob BLS outspeeds all other karts in snaking.

More Importantly: Snaking allows you to go faster than you could without it and going as fast as you can is the point of any racing game.
