Are there any videos of TAS of mario kart ds?
IF you don't know what's TAS it's basically using a program to help you do detailed stuff in the game in slowmotion/savestates. Then you can watch the program play for you is super pro mode.
So, there could be "perfect" runs.

SMK, MKSC and MK64 have been TAS'ed already, not sure if there are plug-ins yet for MKDS/MKDD, they may be in development but i'm not sure.
