Metal Gear movie?

I don't know if you have heard of it, but I think that the Metal Gear series is based off of a 1981 movie.

It is called "Escape from New York", directed by John Carpenter. The main character, Snake Plissken, is played by Kurt Russell.

in the text somewhere it says that Hideo Kojima did mean to reference his Metal Gears series on this movie ^^
Also this inspired the scene in cloverfield where the statue of liberties head falls in the city (as shown in the poster)

Kojima actually admitted that he based Solid Snake's character off of Snake Plisken from Escape From New York and Escape from L.A. (two of the greatest B-movies ever).
