you see that youtube background? well that has a kinda raised effect caused by two lines which seperate part of the pokemon pictures (on right) / pokeballs (on left) and add shade, kinda like dropping a shadow would cause with a picture.

question is, how do i manage to get that to work for both sides?
so how do i cause the raised effect for both sides.

Two separate layers with different dropshadow options on them is what I assume would work.
In fact, you can do it with only one single layer with a dropshadow option that spreads to both sides because of that black middle area.

pretty much, the latter however would constitute doing it by hand as there is no option to spread it to both sides. I actually had to render the BG without the raised effect, then load it into photoshop as another picture, copy the area i wanted raising and paste it twice into the original.

Place them correctly, drop the shadow, turn global off, fiddle with the settings.. do the same for the second one but reverse the angle..

and done! =D
