Gimp Start Up/Resource Thread.

PlanetRenders.net is one of my main sources for brushes, stocks, renders etc. You will need two different log in names because there is a section for renders and a forums section which needs a different user name and password then the render section of the site.

Note* If any of the links are not working please let me know.

To start everything off, the resources, tutorials and everything else I will be posting here are not made by me. I will be posting links, brushes and other helpful resources for you to use for gimp.

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages. Download for Gimp.

What are layers?

The best analogy is to the way cartoons used to be animated. Each component of a scene would be painted on a transparent film, and then each film would be stacked or layered over the other to produce the complete composition. In this way, you could easily animate a person walking because his legs could be animated independantly of his body, for example. Similarly, complex images can be broken down to layers within GIMP and each layer can be processed independentlly of every other.

Sites and links to Brushes:

Deviantart has plenty of resources for gimp. (People if you get resources from Deviantart and the image isn't for public use you have to ask permission to use it in your tags/art.)

Techzilo also has plenty of brushes that you might not find on deviantart.

Brushes in ABR format that can be used with Gimp.

To install the brushes you download just download the brushes you want and put the downloaded brushes into the "Brushes" folder located in your main gimp folder.

Dafont.com has plenty of text. To install the text so that you can use it for gimp just download which one you want and go to your gimp folder and put the text in the "Font" folder.

Thanks for the karma. Thats also one of the reason I made this, I'll be adding more things to it because there's a lot more things to know about gimp. xD

True, but this is for gimpers and if I were to put it in that thread it wouldn't of been noticed by most of the new members and members period.

I recommend you use the program your already on, that way you have more knowledge on the software instead of going to a new software.

I would but the way I made it was kind of messy. Layers weren't organized. Went freestyle instead of following a tutorial.
