Im a newie and i need some help with gh world tour

Hi could some one please help.I have guitar hero world tour and i tryed to join a friends game last nite and we spend 3 hours trying but we could not connect, but when looking for a quick game with strangers i could connect.We wanted to play as a band i had drums and guitar signed in and they had mic and bass signed in, it was saying that we where players 1 and 2, but they where also players 1 and 2 very confusing please help ty:blush:
