If you are purposely holding out on buying a current gen console because the next gen is supposed to be here in a year or so, think again. According to Microsoft's Entertainment & Devices division President, Robbie Bach, creating new home console hardware during this rough financial time may end up doing more bad than good to the gaming industry. With prices for everything rising these days, people most likely won't find buying a new video game console necessary. This could be especially bad for Nintendo, as the
Wii's dimension aims mostly at casual gamers who consider gaming an extra extravagance.
Instead, console manufacturers might be urged to create new features for their current systems. The best example of course is Nintendo's upcoming WiiMotionPlus, which allows for precise motion sensing instead of the very essential one found in current
Wii remotes. Microsoft and Sony are concentrating more on online features, such as online play and downloadable games and content.
Looks like this generation isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
