Just as we were warming to Dragon Quest IX’ release, Square Enix announced that the
DS-exclusive sequel’s release date for Japan will be moved from its original March 28th release date all the way to the 11th of July. Apparently an “unforeseen critical bug” in the game is the reason for the setback.
Square Enix issued this statement:
"It has been recently discovered that the software in development contains an unforeseen critical bug. Although much effort has been made to fix this bug and test the usability in hopes that the game could still be released on the originally announced date, we have reached an unfortunate conclusion that it would take a longer time to fulfil these tasks in order to assure our customers of a product that they can enjoy safely."
An unfortunate turn of events, especially after the recent announcements of downloadable content got most people excited about the upcoming release. This delay will most likely mean that European and American release dates will be moved back as well.
