Nintendo announced today that last week the total Nintendo
DS sales reached the remarkable amount of 100 million. Ever since it launched in 2004, the touchscreen-based handheld has been selling like hotcakes. Who could’ve ever imagined a device with inferior graphic capabilities compared to the slick PSP to become such a hit? If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the
DS and
Wii, it’s that innovation beats graphic prowess.
"Consumers have shown their love for Nintendo DS - 100 million times over," said Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America.
"We are grateful that people of all ages continue to respond to our products, and we will continue to look for ways to please current gamers and create new ones."
The sales comprise of the accumulated amount of sold DS’, DS Lite’s and DSi’s. It won’t be long until the
DS will surpass the current no. 1 sold portable: the Game Boy. These handhelds sold the astonishing amount of 119 million units.
