After two spin offs on the
Wii, Excite Truck and the less popular yet quite good Excite Bots, a new iteration, this time true to the original, will be making its way to the
Wii. Unlike its two predecessors, this game will be launched on WiiWare. Those of you closely following updates on the Nintendo Channel may have heard of it already, as it was announced via this medium first!
Excitebike: World Rally will feature 3D graphics in a three dimensional field as well as a more classic side view option, which is not only easy the eyes, but also reminds us of Nintendo's simpler days on the NES. People who have played Excitebike on the NES will be pleased to know that the original's aesthetics are still intact with this choice.
As can be expected from a title such as 'World Rally', the game's races will take place in various countries all over the world. Furthermore, the grading system from Excitetruck and Excitebots will be making a return in World Rally. With S being near perfect and C the worst grade. All 'S' grades will unlock new content, just like in the two previous games.
You can choose from two control types, namely NES-style controls and motion sensing ones. Using the latter you'll switch lanes by pressing up or down on the directional pad, and by tilting the controller forwards or backwards you can make the biker lean to the front or back respectively. The NES-style controls are basically the same, but instead of tilting the controller you can simply press left or right for that certain action.
It's possible to change the 'classic' side perspective while playing using the A button to a more angled one for a more three dimensional experience, though it's said that controlling the bike feels more unpractical that way due to confusing the directions on the controller.
Apart from the visual update, we'll get to play around with a track editor. You can save these tracks, test them during the building process and even send them over to friends using WiiConnect24.
Possibly the most interesting addition to World Rally is the online multiplayer mode. You can choose to race random players, or play with friends you've registered the friend codes of.
Excitebike: World Rally is set for a November 9th release, so expect more and more details surrounding this game to appear on the net soon. Of course, we'll keep you posted. Until then, check out the official announcement video (as seen on the Nintendo Channel).
