Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you big news. A rumour has emerged with details of the new
Wii, set to release sometime next year. This information comes from a group of people well known for leaking details, most of which is found to be true. They have received the information from an internal source in Nintendo of France. It sounds likely and we all knew this was coming at some point, but remember that it's not confirmed.
Firstly, what we all expected. The Wii2 console will apparently feature a Blu-Ray drive similar to the Playstation 3. This will also help target piracy, a big problem that Nintendo is facing. Ever since
Wii hacking was discovered, people have used it to pirate games usually downloaded from the internet. Nintendo has made countless attempts to stop this, even releasing an update that kills all homebrew on the system. Alas, hackers have still found a way through it. Could this mean the end of homebrew, and more importantly piracy, for the
Wii?
The Wii2 will support 1080p along with lower resolutions, no surprise there. This will allow Blu-Ray movies to be played along with HD Gaming. It seems that Nintendo has finally gotten some sense, to be part of the success that Microsoft and Sony have with their consoles.
The new console is also said to be released sometime in the 3rd quarter of 2010, so the wait is not too long. Could this also mean that it will be here in time for Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the new Legend of Zelda for
Wii? We can only hope. The Wii2 console will be released worldwide, on the same day for all countries.
I'm sure that some of you are currently thinking, "Wow, that's amazing but I already have a
Wii and I don't want to buy another!". If that's you, don't worry. There will be a system where you can trade in your old
Wii to get a discount on the new one. I can imagine that it will be fairly expensive so I believe that this is a great idea.
Nintendo supposedly want to make a worldwide announcement, but this will be only a month before the release date. Remember, however,
that this is only a rumour.
In other news, remember the new DSi that Suntro
told you guys about? It seems that it is true! Nintendo will indeed be releasing a new DSi with a larger screen, aimed at an older audience. The screens will be 4" big, however it is only announced for Japan. The new handheld console will be called the DSi LL and will be released on November 21st for ¥20,000. That's about $220 or £134 pounds. Personally, I think that the stylus looks a bit too big. See for yourself:
EDIT: The DSi LL has officially been announced for Europe. It will be called the DSi XL and will come out in Q1 2010. 3 colours have been announced for the Japanese DSi LL. These are Wine Red, as you can see above, Dark Brown and Natural White.
The Japanese version will include "Easy Meikyo Kokugo Dictionary", "Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters" and "Brain Age Express: Math". Note that these colours and games have only been announced for Japan. Nintendo of America will probably confirm it too.
