This may come as a surprise, but until now Nintendo did not own the rights to the domain SuperMario.com. In fact, there are a lot of Mario related domains floating around that Nintendo doesn't have ownership of. It may appear as though Nintendo hasn't done much to get the domains back, but that doesn't mean they’re not doing something behind the scenes to get them into their possession. Recently, Nintendo finally secured the SuperMario.com domain after filing a case with the World Intellectual Property Organization. With Super Mario Bros being released in 1985, it isn't surprising that the domain wasn't taken by Nintendo at the time. So far nothing has been done on the domain by Nintendo but the release of Super Mario 3D Land might change that. Super Mario 3D Land is scheduled for a November release, so keep a look out for updates to the domain in the months to come.
