Eye Toy has more potential than Wii Remote - 08-22-07

The PS3's ability to track the position of an object in 3D space using the new Eye Toy offers up more potential for motion-sensing gaming than the Wii Remote, Sony told CVG yesterday.

Eye Toy card battle game, Eye of Judgement, boasts some pretty impressive optical recognition...

CosGrove's Thought: I'm not disagreeing that EyeToy will be able to do things the Wiimote can't, that's obvious: it's a camera, which the Wiimote isn't. But how can a 2d camera properly track 3d motion? Yes, it could feasably track the distance and rotation of a 'card', but it would be pretty difficult to get it to register tilt towards and away from the screen consistently... and these magic cards presumably won't have buttons on them and are probably fairly awkward to hold comfortably for long periods of time...
I have to disagree. It's talking about cards on a board. So you don't have to hold them. and obviouly there wouldn't be buttons on the card, it sounds like it's gonna be like playing Magic against the computer. And it's also saying that the camera can keep track of an object as it gets closer and further. Makes me a little more excited to get my ps3! ^_^

Re: Eye Toy has more potential than Wii Remote

It's painfully obvious that Sony is VERY threatened by Nintendo. Sony fanboys, don't throw rocks at me just yet.Concider that movement thing in the Ps3's controller, concider this...concider it all. Sony is good, they make good stuff, but they're very aware of Nintendo's presence.

I played with these card things at comic-con. The eyetoy recognizes 4 green triangles on the card and then a monster pops up there on the screen. If u mess with the monster, it does stuff. They look pretty cool, but are not a threat to the wii.

If you silly fanboys thought for a moment, the eyetoy camera isn't anything copying the wiimote, it was made before the wiimote. And sony has been planning this sort of thing, right when the eyetoy came out, so it isn't desperately trying to copy anything.

The wii also has something else the ps3 doesnt, you can play it for more then an hour without a risk of it catching on fire ^ ^
