Namco Jumps on the Fitness Bandwagon.

We all know about Nintendo's announcement on the upcoming Wii Fit right? (I'm sure we all paid attention to the conference Reggie spoke in, if not shame on you. Kidding!).

On that note, Namco Bandai has decided to jump onto the fitness bandwagon, with a new game called Family Trainer: Athletic World. The control scheme is a mat on the floor as well as the Wii Remote.

they have mentioned a two player "tramcar adventure' which is said to have one person in a car, jumping and stepping on the control mat. The Wii Remote will also be used to shoot rocks as well as other obstacles.

(A screen shot showing the game in action)

It looks like we'll be seeing double action in this game where you'd have to focus on the mat as well as the Wii Remote. What kind of throws me off though is the fact that in the screenshot the graphics look really cheesy and slopped together, just to make a quick buck. Let's hope that this is not the final design for graphics in the game.

Family Trainer: Athletic World is going to hit stores in Japan sometime next year.

I see in the near future that the concept of "wii fit" will be much like the trend of brain games. So we may see quite a few of these soon.

Yeah, I do see a trend, that may occur. It's a healthy trend too, and if they can pull off a fitness game and make it fun, there will be a lot of lost weight out there in my opinion.

Yep, they are aiming for the same thing they were when brain age was created. Nintendo is just trying to help us it seems. I wonder if this trend would be as popular as the brain age one. In retrospect brain age 2 was among the top sellers for quite a while. You can only ponder which way this will go.

Hmm, I like this new trend though.
This can mean a fitter world!
Best part, just about anyone can play them.
But is this going to just become like the WW2 Fad or what?

Nice Find Mazu ;)
