The Smash Dojo confirmed a few months ago that Ness' fellow Earthbounder, Lucas will be joining the Brawl next year. Ever since his confirmation, it has been pondered as to whether or not Ness would be returning also or if Lucas would be taking his place. However, today's Smash Update has confirmed...

listen up if you have read in other places, NESS WASNT EVEN SOPPOSED TO BE IN MELEE. the reason he was in melee and lucas wasnt was because the game Mother 3 got delayed so they had to keep Ness instead of adding lucas so there is your proof

Hm. the only thing keeping me from throwing this article out the window is that yeah, Ness's moveset is pretty much what lucas has now.

but honestly, today's update did not in any way imply that ness is not coming back. rather, it hinted towards the fact that ness is actually returning when he was being compared to lucas. and if he was getting cut, i think nintendo wouldve mentioned it already, exclusively on today's update.

edit: but i dont really care if ness dies anyway lol

Wait...That doesnt solely mean he's cut out...Does it?
I dunno. Are you guys sure its confirmed or maybe a miss understanding?

There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar. They are from the same family of PK users.

That implies that Ness in gone.

Here is my understanding:

People have been saying he was intentionally supposed to be cut from Melee for Lucas but wasn't because Mother 3 was delayed.

Nintendo said they weren't adding cloned characters, so having given Lucas Ness' moveset either confirms that A. They have cut Ness, B. They are adding him, but giving him a new move set (which seems too unlikely for words) and C. They are porting him over from Melee with the same moves (which also seems very unlikely at this point).

I think if Ness was going to be in this game, they would have given Lucas an original move set, but that doesn't look like the case right now.

well, they haven't confirmed it officially so it can't be for sure. they would've most likely said it in this update. he does have the same set of special moves but different standard moves.

I've hated this lil' bugger (lucas) since they released him... anyways, this basically seals the bag for Ness, but you never know. I personally would think they'd not even mention Ness in the updates concerning Lucas... but I don't know.

it is very true that the smash moves (and what looks to be Lucas' grab) are VERY different from our lil' PK buddy, but the special moves... disgust me to say the least. it has the hint of a luigified moveset with the PK fire going sideways, not diagonally (pointless personally) and a ... slow freezing move... riight... but I'm still pulling for Ness to make it in.

the way I see it, every time they mention him, they're mentioning him. redundant? very. point is, they're adding one more hint that they remember Ness. I hope to mah lawd that clones won't be in, but if it has to come at the price of an original smasher getting cut... it just isn't worth it.

hopefully he'll be released soon (there hasn't been a veteren released lately, has there?) but knowing Nintendo, they'll hold it out and make us (or some of us) squirm until the last second...

who thinks they're not going to release secret characters? :confused: I've thought about this recently... but they've just got so much time to fill.

Exactly. Everybody hates Ness for some reason >_> I used to pwn with Ness. Now I suck with him cause I haven't used him in a while =P
