The Playstation 2 launched in 2000, and was very warmly welcomed all over the world. To this day, it continues to out sell even its younger brother, the PS3, and made the Playstation brand a well known name amongst video gaming. But finally, after almost eight years of market dominance, the Nintendo
DS has over taken the number of PS2's shipped in Japan.... in less than half the time.
The Playstation 2, as I stated above, launched in 2000. Since then, it has shipped 20,901,468 units in Japan during it's 8-year life span and is still selling strongly. The Nintendo
DS on the other hand, which launched in 2004, has since then shipped 20,954,157 units in Japan. Althought it may not seem like much, given the 4-year handicap the PS2 had over the
DS, it's a tremendous achievement.
Kudos to Nintendo for reaching this new milestone with the
DS, lets hope the
Wii wields similar success 4 years down the road.
