Since Nintendo announced that Sega would be bringing games from the Mega Drive to their
Wii Virtual Console service, it was soon rumored as to whether or not Sega would be bringing a selection of quality titles from their other consoles also. After a while, we all forgot about it. But to dust of an old rumor and confirm it as truth, Sega are bringing three more of their systems to the library of Virtual Console games.
The first console joining the line up is a system that needs no introduction.....
The Master System was Sega's first console, and was released to compete with the NES. It used 8 bit graphics similar to its rival and gave the NES a run for its money. We loved the Super Mario Bros, but Alex Kid was fun in its own way.
Joining the ranks of the Master System is the Japan exclusive console, the Sega Mark III. All I can say it that it was not released outside of Japan, so there is a chance this console will be restricted to certain regions (although the Turbo Grafx was the same case).
Finally, which came as quite a surprise, is the Game Gear. The Game Gear was Sega's answer to Nintendo's Game Boy. Although it had colour display and a built in back light, it ripped through battery power because of it, which was probably a factor relating to its loss against the Game Boy.
It is unconfirmed as to whether or not every system listed will release in every region, but it doesn't seem unlikely after what Nintendo did with the Turbo Grafx and Japan only games such as Super Mario Bros. Lost Levels.
