The Freeloader disc created by Datel is designed to disable a consoles region lock, allowing gamers to play games from any region on their system. Shortly after Datel released the Freeloader disc for the
Wii, it was questioned if it would be a wasted investment if Nintendo updated the firmware and locked the device out, just as they did with the Gamecube Freeloader.
But today, Datel has gone on record claiming that this will not be an issue, stating that any firmware updates will not effect the disc from working on the
Wii.

...we can confirm that on every occasion that the product is used when the disc is inserted in the console that it allows the usage of any imported Wii game discs and disables the console from been able to update its firmware, if the disc is removed after been inserted and reinserted this will again enable the console to update its firmware but still allow the usage of the any imported Wii game discs.

Datel could be saying this because.... well if they don't the Freeloader won't sell now will it? But with that said, there is a chance that Nintendo will find a way around it. But if they have found a way to dodge the Nintendo firmware, what does that mean for Action Replay, which is created by the same company? Time will tell.
Also for those who also don't know, Action Replay is a cheat hacking device. In other words, it's the reason why you don't play Metroid Prime: Hunters online anymore.
