Rumor: USB storage for the Wii in development after all? - 06-09-08

Any Wii owner who has downloaded plenty of Virtual Console games and channels should be well aware of the Wii's limited storage capabilities. It's been hinted at for some time now that Nintendo were working on a solution. Nintendo has closed the rumors, then reopened them, and then closed them...

well if you save it to the SD card, you're gonna have to redownload them over and over again, SD cards are too slow to save the downloads, and external hardrive will be much faster then an SD card.

Its not the speed of the SD card, its the speed that the Wii reads and writes them, which is slow as hell.

What are you talking about? It takes like 5 seconds (on my Wii, Idk about yours) for it to copy channels into my SD card, and from the SD card to the Wii is about the same amount of time.

this would explain why Guitar Hero 4 will have DLC for the wii version.
