Are Sony and Microsoft really stealing ideas from Nintendo? - 06-17-08

This is turning into a bit of a problem I think. On the front page articles, mostly the latest ones posted like the Microsoft releasing Mii like avatars for the Xbox 360, fanboys have been flaming at each other because Microsoft (and Sony) is apparently copying Nintendo's ideas and Nintendo should...

Re: Are Sony and Microsoft really stealing ideas from Nintendo?

Ok for one, nobody can copyright an "idea". I guess Thomas Eddison should sue you all for using the lightbulb. lol

Think of the Miis as a fad. Nintendo came up with them and everyone else fallows. Nintendo probably has copyrighted the "Mii", but nothing violates that by making a Mii-like person you can make to represent yourself online. As long as it doesn't use the same features, and they don't call it a "Mii". Your totally right, Nintendo didn't come up with "Wireless controll". Actually, Sony probably made it before Nintendo. Sony makes wireless controllers for the TV before the Wavebird even came out. Nobody owns wireless control; in fact, the laws of Physics and Science "own" wireless control. Good for Nintendo for making something popular (for once) rofl!

Re: Are Sony and Microsoft really stealing ideas from Nintendo?

first off: yeah, you sure are right about a lot of stuff... furthermore, what you speak of can be summarized in one word: capitalism. :D it's the whole idea of competition between two companies producing the same type of product, or am i wrong? this leads to new developments which makes us, the consumers, happy for now we do not only have one company with monopoly selling underdeveloped and overpriced goods but a bigger variation of, for example, video game consoles and games.

that sounded kind of too political, maybe. point is, saying only nintendo should have wireless wii-typical games in the future would be ignorant. less isn't always more, as the old saying implies.

nintendo will always be #1 anyways ;)

and god bless sweden

You've got the next Tony Hawks game on PS3 and 360 having a balance board. COPY OF WII BALANCE BOARD.

You've got Microsoft making these 'avatar' thingies. COPY OF MIIS

You've got Sony and Microsoft supposedly making motion sensitive controllers. COPY OF WII REMOTE.

Anyone else see the correlation? Nintendo are succeeding and winning the console war by a fair few million sales. The Wii's success is uncanny. So Sony and Microsoft have decided "If you can't beat them with superior graphics, join them with intuitive ideas!" Them •••••••s.
Sony making motion sensitive controllers, wait a minute. Didn't that already happen? The six-axis controllers ARE motion sensitive, just because its not as good as the Wii Remotes doesn't mean it never existed. Motion sensing wise, that is. I like every console on the market today.

Anyway, so Sony and Microsoft are copying Nintendo's money-printing whit box. SO WHAT? You all do realize, that this could be a good thing? Maybe they'll make it better, maybe they'll make it worse, but either way it's all progress, right?

And if they DO make it better, it could just benefit all of us in the end. Same thing goes for the Balance Board-esqe peripherals as well. So, as basically said in this article, don't worry about it too much.:D

... Microsoft WiiMote? Do you really expect Microsoft to release a new controller exactly like the Wii Controller and go 'LOL THIS R WIIMOTE'?

Plus MS said they would be making movement sensitivity for a long time.

On another note, very good points you made there.
