I'm not kidding, this is 100% real and serious. This is probably the only lawsuit Nintendo has been involved in that has gotten this serious. Nintendo recently went to court facing a patent infringement issue with their Gamecube and
Wii Classic Controllers. The case is over, and Nintendo lost. Now, Nintendo has been ordered to cease sales of the Gamecube controllers, Wavebird controllers,
Wii Classic controllers and any system bundles which include one of the banned controllers until they pay $21 million for using Anascape's analogue controls without compensation.
Nintendo has chosen to appeal their case rather than pay the $21 million, which could mean controllers will be off store shelves for some time. Microsoft and Sony were also hit with this lawsuit, but settled outside of court. Just to recap, the controllers that will banned are the
Wii Classic Controller and all Gamecube controllers (including any bundles where these controllers are packed in.) However, the
Wii Remote and Nunchuck are unaffected. I will keep you posted.
