Nintendo loses lawsuit, facing Wii and Gamecube controller bans in the US.

I'm not kidding, this is 100% real and serious. This is probably the only lawsuit Nintendo has been involved in that has gotten this serious. Nintendo recently went to court facing a patent infringement issue with their Gamecube and Wii Classic Controllers. The case is over, and Nintendo lost. Now, Nintendo has been ordered to cease sales of the Gamecube controllers, Wavebird controllers, Wii Classic controllers and any system bundles which include one of the banned controllers until they pay $21 million for using Anascape's analogue controls without compensation.

Nintendo has chosen to appeal their case rather than pay the $21 million, which could mean controllers will be off store shelves for some time. Microsoft and Sony were also hit with this lawsuit, but settled outside of court. Just to recap, the controllers that will banned are the Wii Classic Controller and all Gamecube controllers (including any bundles where these controllers are packed in.) However, the Wii Remote and Nunchuck are unaffected. I will keep you posted.

Well, prices for these controllers will sky rocket, provided the only way to get them now is Ebay... But hey, Least we still have our old controllers/wave birds. Nintendo will find away around this

If I heard correctly, when your patent is violated, you have a certain ammount of time to sue the people who violated it. After the set time you cant bring the case up.

But In this case, I believe the company realised there patent was violated too late, because nintendo no longer made the gamecube controller. Once they began to make the new 3m cord GC controllers, those people realised they had another chance at suing Nintendo. The Classic controller could have been something they just decided to look at and saw it also was a copy of their design.

Stupid... This whole thing... Suing over a friggin' ANALOG STICK... Well, I hope the appeal goes well for Nintendo, cause they seem to be getting picked on left and right lately, what with E3 and the DS infringment issue...
