Nintendo has announced that the
Wii is the fastest selling home console to break through the 500,000 units sold milestone in Australia.
GfK Australia found out that the sales mark was reached 84 weeks into the launch of the console in Australia. The
Wii beat the previous record holder by 23 weeks who took 107 weeks to reach 500,000.
The Nintendo
Wii has been in high demand since it's launch in November 19th, 2006 and hasn't been providing enough consoles because of hardware shortages. The average
Wii is on store shelfs for around an hour as the console is still selling like hotcakes. Its unfortunate for those without the console waiting for more stock to arrive. Nintendo's CEO Satoru Iwata already stated that he couldn't guarantee
Wii supplies for this upcoming Christmas in this recent interview found
here.
