Rumours have been flying around all summer concerning Microsoft's price drops on all 3 versions of the 360. However, it has only been announced this week at the Tokyo Media Event that Microsoft are slashing the cost of these consoles in Japan. News is expected to arrive next week as to whether or not other countries will receive the same treatment. However, with the
Wii being so popular in Japan, and the Xbox 360 being the least popular, how exactly may this affect sales of both consoles?
The biggest price drop was seen in the Xbox 360 Arcade Version which was previously ¥27,800 ($257) but has been reduced to ¥19,800 ($183). This is around $50 cheaper than the Nintendo
Wii is selling for in the land of the rising sun. Microsoft have had a fairly unsuccessful time selling their products in Japan, being an US company. It's quite apparent that Japan prefer their own technology (Nintendo and Sony) over that of foreign products. Yet we all know how far ahead Japan is in terms of technological advances, right?
On the other hand, Bandai's recent release of 'Tales of Vesperia' resulted in a nation-wide sell out of the Xbox 360 as this title was only available for the console. Could this price cut turn around Microsoft's bad luck?
