Tales of Hearts comparison videos. Anime or CG, which will you choose?
As most of you might know, Tales of Hearts, Namco-Bandai’s newest installment of the ‘Tales’ franchise appearing on the Nintendo DS, will have two separate versions. Of which the only differences will be the visual styles of the cut scenes. A minor change one might think, but to some make the difference of buying a game or not. Now, Namco-Bandai has released two videos, comparing both versions.
Tales of Hearts - Anime Trailer
This is the anime version of game and is produced by Production I.G. This is the same company that worked on Wario Land: The Shake Dimension, which had an amazing graphic style.
Tales of Hearts - CG Trailer
This is the video of the CG version and is clearly completely different. This version is made by a company going by the name of Shirogumi. For those who are wondering, CG stands for Computer Graphics and refers to the more ‘realistic’ look of artwork, clearly portrayed in RPG’s such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Most ‘American’ RPG’s hold true to this style, while the Japanese counterparts usually prefer anime.
Some more information on the game, from a previous article, can be found here.
Tales of Hearts is set to release on December 11th in Japan. If the game would ever make it to European and/or North American shores, which version would you get?

Probably the anime one.
The graphics on the CG one are amazing, especially for the DS. But Tales Of just isn't Tales of unless it has anime in it.

Unless all the ingame artwork matches the art style of the cutscenes, its going to look weird with CG.

I'm more of a fan of Japanese RPG's, so I'll go with the anime version if it would ever make the linguistic leap.

I prefer the anime video but whats with the music?
Anyways, is this series good? Do you have to follow it from the start? Is it a long game?
Someone please answer!

The Tales series are one of the best RPG series and ranks somewhere around the likes of Final Fantasy. Almost all Tales games have individual stories and don't have any to do with other Tales games, save for 2 or 3 of them and a couple of references, so you don't have to follow the series to understand what's going on and that kind of stuff.
The games are long. The main story can often last more than 40 hours and sidequests always add a lot of extra gameplay. In some of the Tales games, after you finish the storyline, you can start over with the same level on a higher difficulty, regain the items you collected and similar things, which you unlock as you play more, so technically you could be playing this game over and over if you'd wanted to.
I, personally, am a huge fan of the Tales franchise and would certainly recommend it.

The anime version is awesome.
When I first saw that Hearts girl, I was like "bleh the CG sucks." But the whole thing in general wasn't too bad. Just... that girl's model. Mainly her hair. It bugs me. :[
Quite a lot of work just to Americanize something. Reminds me of a company I absolutely despise...
This game looks pretty good, though, so I may wind up getting the English version just to understand it. I mean... RPGs suck if you can't get the story. :|

Good article, N_gamer.:)
Anime version for sure.:D
IG production did once again a good job.
The same studio behind Tales of Symphonia and other projects.
The CG looks great too, but it feels less Tales-like.
I do hope we have a choice if it ever gets localised in the PAL and American regions.
