For the hardcore gamer, the original
Wii Classic Controller was a savior. From the clunky controls of Smash Bros. on the
Wii Remote to your stash of virtual console games that just DON'T WORK well with the GCN controller, that little white piece of "outdated" technology has saved us from using dozen's of games' awful motion controls.
That being said, the overall shape of the device was sort of a silly decision on Nintendo's part when you think about it. I mean, the "flat" design worked in the days of the SNES, but those days are long gone.
Now, Nyko, the creators of the original
Wii Grip, create a new, updated version of the Classic Controller. The buttons are in the same places, but now it looks more like Sony's Dualshock controller, which is ideal for games like Bully: Scholarship Edition that were original intended for the PS2.
Best of all, this thing's fully wireless, so when you die during the last level of a brutal Turbografix-16 shooter, flinging your controller back in anger won't send your console flying.
Like any wireless controllers, though, these require energy. This can be done with a handful of AA batteries (two, to be exact), but if you want a "rechargeable" feel, you could easily use the USB attachment to do that.
Just in time for the holidays, the Nyko Wing Classic Controller will ship in October for $30, $10 more than the original. That being said, if you need a classic controller, and you don't feel like looking around for a Wavebird, this is definitely the way to go.
