In a recent issue of Club Nintendo, a Spanish Nintendo magazine, a revealing interview with Nintendo’s two main men was printed. One of the questions addressed the
Wii’s lack of a proper hard drive or another memory expansion. Reggie confirmed such a device was in the making, but also noted that it might not necessarily be a hard drive. This is a rough translation of what he said:
“We are working on a storage solution and it is especially important in America because our consumers are using Wii Points for the Virtual Console and WiiWare. I want the people to have the right expectations; We have never said that it will be a hard drive nor have we mentioned how we will fix this issue, but we are going to deliver a better way to store the games.”
Moreover, Miyamoto said that we should expect an official announcement in the near future while Nintendo is currently researching various approaches to solve the issue.
The discussion (with Miyamoto) then went on about the
Wii Motion Plus accessory and whether it will be implemented in future Zelda games. Miyamoto confirms there is currently a new Zelda in the making, but says nothing about its connection to the
Wii Motion Plus. Additionally, he said that they’re not ready to make an official announcement until the game is in a later stage of production. The production of the new Zelda was apparently also the reason Eiji Aonuma didn’t attend the E3.
When asked about rumored titles such as the new Kid Icarus, Luigi’s own game and Pikmin, he confirmed Pikmin was in the making, but couldn’t disclose anything about the other titles.
Miyamoto then talked about the
Wii’s peripherals; the
Wii Wheel,
Wii Balance Board, etcetera; and said that there won’t be many more in the future since the
Wii already has enough of them.
Reggie Fils-Aime commented on a question about Nintendo’s lack of "core" games for the
Wii by saying that Animal Crossing is not casual in any way and that he’s glad about the coming GTA: Chinatown Wars game on the Nintendo
DS. Then Reggie was asked about
Wii demos on the Nintendo Channel and denied the coming of such a feature.
Furthermore, the question of a redesign of the
DS was raised, on which Reggie responded that redesigns only appear when sales slow down, not when they are at their peak (such as now).
Conclusively, while talking about Microsoft’s recent unveiling of the Xbox Live Avatars on the E3 he said that he was more flattered than anything since Nintendo built the foundation of such services with their Mii’s.
Many rumors were confirmed and debunked in this open interview with Reggie and Shigeru. Some less important information was left out, but can be found on the Go Nintendo site for your reading pleasure.
