Downloadable content service for Guitar Hero IV

As most of you know, Guitar Hero IV will be a game featuring a considerable amount of downloadable content ranging from individual songs to complete albums. The topic of whether the Wii would receive the same DLC treatment as the Xbox 360 and PS3 version was a heavily discussed item both on forums and, most likely, also at Activision. The Friendcodes system proved to be atrocious for easy online play and combined with the Wii’s limited memory capacity downloadable content for the system would seem to be out of the question. Not so long ago it was announced that the Wii would get downloadable content, but it was rather unclear on how this would work. Now, however, Activision’s CEO, Mike Griffith said the following about the feature:

"Looking even further out, we're exploring new models, like an annual pass subscription where players can subscribe and get a certain number of songs downloadable each month."

Sounds good, but will we be able to store this on our SD cards? Most gamers already have a lot of other content saved such as numerous saved game data, Virtual Console games, etcetera. All we know is that either we’ll have to free up some space or they might come up with an ingenious solution. Until then we can only speculate.

Some other quotes, not regarding the DLC service:

"We've learned that the consumer still has an insatiable appetite for more. Consumers have downloaded over 20 million individual songs for the franchise, and they still tell us they want more."

"In fact, the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith game delivered 10x the revenue compared to Aerosmith's most recently released CD in 2004, when comparing equivalent launch periods."

Conclusively, Mike Griffith said that we can expect twice as much Guitar Hero games in 2009 en even three times as much in 2010.
Activision will probably release more games based on individual bands and alternate between the ‘standard’ Guitar Hero and the ‘band’ Guitar Hero. Either way, expect to rock out in the future, with or without extra content.

You must have been kidding when you said that.
It's fun to play through the songs once or twice but after the hundredth time you're playing the song out of memory and not skill. Downloadable content makes it so that you don't get bored of playing the same songs over and over again. imo

GH is probably a good game. I've never played it myself. But it, along with Rock Band, Wii Fit, etc, is a complete rip of money.

I buy Pokemon Diamond, get like, 300 hours of play out of it. And it cost me £24.99
If I buy GHIII, I pay £69.99 and get like, what? 30 hours gameplay? 40 maybe?

Be wise people. Are you getting your money's worth?

When you play with friends and family, DLC, and trying to perfect as many songs as possible? Yes you do.

Maybe the content could be downloaded straight to the disc?

It was actually confirmed a while ago by IGN that the Wii version would use DLC and that all data would be stored on an SD Card using a service called "Rock Archive".

Re: Downloadable content service for Guitar Hero IV

im getting tired of all the flaws nintendo has, friendcodes, voicechat, memory, its all sickening!!! we video gamers are missing out on so much fun! and nintendo isnt even trying to fix them, sticking to "baby friendly" (nintendo wanting conduit to have friend codes) if i had the money, id buy a xbox360 or ps3 for now, but my computer will have to suffice for now
