The two heroes embark on a mission to save their galaxy – to do so they must excavate, awaken, train and collect all the Spectrobes they can and battle to defeat the Krawl." -Nintendo.com
Intro: This game at first may seem like a Pokemon knock-off. This is certainly not the case, and you soon realize this after a few minutes of gameplay.
Graphics: I'll start with the graphics. The graphics for this game are pretty decent, especially for the
DS. The monsters and your environment are done well. This is a really important part of the game to me, and I’m glad they were done well.
9/10 Sound/Music: The sound and music in this game is ok I suppose. Nothing too special really. The battle sound effects are decent. The background music is decent. It’s all just decent.
7/10 Gameplay: Ah. The gameplay. The most important part of every game. I’ll split this into parts, because the game is pretty in-depth.
7.5/10 Story- The story isn’t that great. Not much to say about it.
7/10 Battling- Meh. This is a part of the game that isn’t done too well, yet is still fun. This is how it works: You have two Spectrobes on either side of you who follow you wherever you go. The “L” button makes the Spectrobe on your left attack, and the “R” button makes the Spectrobe on your right attack. The D-pad controls the direction you and the Spectrobes move. You have several weapons (which can be upgraded) but they have very little effect on the Krawl. You use the “B” button to change which weapon you want to use and you use the “X” button to attack. In a normal battle, you are battling 3 Krawl. You walk around the fighting arena (a circle) attacking and being attacked until either you run out of HP or you kill all the enemy Krawl. If one of your Spectrobes die during battle, you can continue to fight with the other. But if you die, the battle ends and you return to your ship.
7/10
Excavating- This was fun at first, then got boring after doing it 45721 times. Basically, you use the touch screen and several different tools to “dig up” fossils, (which you can wake up in the incubator later) minerals, (you feed minerals to your Spectrobes to build up there stats) and cubes. (cubes tell you important info, and unlock stuff)
6/10 WiFi and Multiplayer: WiFi- WiFi is both disappointing and cool at the same time. The disappointing part is that there are NO ONLINE BATTELS. The cool part, is that you can download new/special things. Like Spectrobes, custom parts, minerals, and even Spectrobes webisodes.
You can also upload stats to the Spectrobes website. WiFi must be unlocked by excavating a certain cube, which sucks.
8/10 Multiplayer- The multiplayer is good. You can either do 1 vs.1 battles with a friend, or a 3-16 person tournament. You can also trade Spectrobes, fossils, our custom parts. Multiplayer must be unlocked by excavating a certain cube, which again, sucks.
9/10
Replay Value: This is a VERY important part of the game, because the story is pretty short and easy to beat. The replay value thankfully though, is very good. Continuing to level up your monsters, collecting all the fossils and cubes, and because of the availability to download new things via wifi, makes the replay value on this game almost perfect.
9.5/10 Overall: Overall a great game, with a not too good story. I suggest if you have the extra $29.99 to go pick it up.
8/10
