| | Yoshi Island DS The second user review is upon us! This one is the true sequel of Yoshi Island (SNES), and not the Yoshi Touch and Go ( DS) half sequel.
Follow Waterman65 as he follows the twists and turns of the game, from good to bad. If you enjoy this review, Waterman65 also wrote a Sonic Advance review 3, so check that one out! Who knows, maybe that one will be published here too? Yoshi Island DS Review made by Waterman Console: DS ESRB: E for all Players: 1 Developer: Artoon Publisher: Nintendo Release Date: November 13, 2006 Intro: Yoshi Island DS is really similar to all the other Yoshi Stories. It starts by Kamek and others flying out of Bowser’s castle going to a village stealing all the babies. While Kamek was leaving with all the babies, a stork flies at him and knocks baby Mario, peach and DK out of his hands, leaving him with baby Luigi and the rest. While a Yoshi is just walking around, Baby Mario and baby Peach falls right on two Yoshis. Thus, the adventure begins. Storyline: This game is about using Yoshi and the babies to get through various stages, enemies, and bosses to save baby Luigi and the other babies. You start the game with Baby Mario and Baby Peach, but before you now it, you’ve already gotten DK. You must go around getting past obstacles using special abilities from each baby. Longevity: For this game’s longevity, it’s kind of hard to say. The game is pretty long, the story part is short, but after you beat the story part, there are more challenges.
One of them being beating all levels with 100% just to unlock secret levels with the White and Black colored Yoshi. Another one being to unlocking all the Mini games for hard and normal mode. Graphics: The graphics for this game is pretty decent, but are really improved from all the other Yoshi Story games, Except Yoshi touch and Go. The background for the game is always colorful, bright, and happy looking. This game is average compared to all the other DS titles. Game play: This games game play is similar to the Mario games, just run and jump, except you can flutter and throw eggs. The controls are decent, not too hard and not to easy. It’s just using different colored Yoshis walking, running and fighting through side-scrolling stages. Using Yoshi to flutter across various ditches and eat enemies to make eggs to throw at certain switches can sometimes be fun if you’re new to this kind of game, And of course using the babies’ special abilities to overcome parts of the stages. The game can sometimes become a puzzle when using the babies. Sound: Not much to say here, Most of their music in Yoshi Story centers around one basic song or rhythm. The sounds for the Yoshis are the same as of every Yoshi sound, but when the Yoshis get hit and the baby is hit off the Yoshi, the babies crying can get pretty annoying. Scores: Storyline: 6.5/10 Basic Storyline, The same as all the other Yoshi Stories. Longevity: 7/10 The games Longevity is pretty long when you want to unlock all the special parts of the game. Graphics: 8/10 The graphics like I said, Are average for DS games, But improved from the other Yoshi Stories. Gameplay: 8/10 Very similar to Mario games which is good, especially with all the new powers you get using the babies. Sound: 9/10 The sounds of this game are great, always has a lot of tunes and sounds. Overall: 38.5/50 This game is good, good enough to buy and enjoy it, especially if you are into Mario Games. It will give you a lot of joy especially when you are bored, or just wanna play it for fun. It entertained me a lot when I haven't played it in over 3 months. | | Member rating | | Graphics | | 7.71 | | Sound | | 7.50 | | Gameplay | | 7.88 | | Longevity | | 8.42 | |

| Re: Yoshi Island DS Great review, Waterman65.
I disagree with you about the graphics, it looks awesome!
But what I really like about the visuals is the details.
A good example is in the Shy Guy Fortress, there you need to venture accross a huge room using stilts.
If you look at the background you will see all sorts of Shy Guys doing their thing, it is quite funny to see what they are doing.
For extra longevity, Waterman65 forgot to add the safari park.
If you want to have all the creatures added, you'll need to spend extra effort.
Gameplay-wise it is on and off, with great moments and bad moments.
It is still a great game, but it is very short and sometimes it loses the Nintendo touch. | | | | | | Re: Yoshi Island DS

| Re: Yoshi Island DS Yeah, I can see it. | | | | | | Re: Yoshi Island DS I really didn't like Yoshi Island DS, the SNES/ GBA one was much better. I think being able to swap the babies around ruined the game, made it tedious like DK64. | | | | | | Re: Yoshi Island DS
IMO Switching babies is a great feature for the game, It makes it different from the rest! [Besides Touch and Go >_>] | | | | | Re: Yoshi Island DS Yoshi Island DS is awesome! | | | | | | Re: Yoshi Island DS Great review, Waterman ^^
I personally thought that the gameplay was quite repetitive though, although I'm only on World II currently. | | | | | | Re: Yoshi Island DS My games=0 (ok I have some)
